729 Battle Taichi is a false legitimacy.

China 729 manufacturer does claim the innovative sponge sheet to be a monolayer structure in compliance with the ITTF technical standards.
It is not the case. Upon our own investigation over the China Patent Database we found out a real manufacturing process they employed to produce a complex sponge material.

Two layers of raw rubber material C and D are merged together without any visible seam. Nevertheless, it still represent a TWO LAYER structure of one same composition. -- that is explicitly prohibited by ITTF technical regulations M4.
We strongly expect ITTF to issue an official public announcement regarding the illegal product in next month or two.

Ta-da! :D

p.s. the white stuff under the sponge is just another piece of hard paper to hold the sponge straight when taking photo. Incidentally the paper has blue surface on that side touching the sponge so it can be seen another layer of blue, it's not part of the sponge. The sponge only has two layers of blue.

Oh cool. I need to buy some. Maybe it'll add 50 points to my ratings.

Yikes.. Look at the price though.

It sure does look like it's got a ITTF stamp, though... and a number (27-022). I wonder what a "false legitimacy" is... :?:

Bah. Humbug. That link goes to another Igor post on another forum, not to some scholarly article. 1993? Tibhar?? Igor's "retrospection" didn't go deep enough. In the late 1980s Donic was selling a rubber with two layer sponge. The very next year they replaced it with a gradient sponge. Butterfly was also selling rubber with "Kawatsuki Sponge" - supposedly the result of leaving the skin that forms next to the mold on the sponge, instead of shaving it off, resulting in a sponge with a hard skin on it.

CHINA PRODUCTS COMING IN CONFLICT WITH ITTF DIRECTIVES.

ITTF did circulated an explicit instructive letter to all manufacturers, aiming to prevent production of the bastard sandwich rubbers (excessive breeding illegal sponges on market).

The ยง 5.2.3 therein provides an explicit Criteria for the sameness of sponge material.
-- Sponge material is considered "one and the same" as long as it retains original properties, -- colour, composition, density, hardness.

For example, a sandwich rubber combined with different sponges of 38 - 40 - 42 hardness must be taken as three different products, and, therefore, each one must be assigned its specific brand name /specific ITTF number. (accordingly, , authorisation is needed as if for three different producs).

Yes, most Chinese brand owners are reluctant to submit extra sponges for authorisation by ITTF on the unseemly purpose to elude extra expenses. They rightfully deserve monetary and administrative penalties as established by ITTF.

And if they don't? Will Russia invade China to force them to?   Honestly, Igor, NOBODY CARES.

It's definitely in the LARC - 27-022.
