I've read the info on manufacturers in the reviews section and I learned quite a bit, but I couldn't help but notice some brands were missing (eg. XIOM, Gambler, to name a couple) , and some of the manufacturers didn't have much info on them.

So.....

I'm thinking of starting a compilation to add to and improve on what's already there in the reviews section. Maybe it can even be a sticky thread, and I can update the info as we get contributions from members.

I was thinking of including things like:
- a description section (ie. their history, etc)
- brands they make
- players they sponsor
- relevant web links (website, links to catalogues?)

I suspect it will initially be difficult to find info on some manufacturers, especially if they don't have much of a web (English language) presence, but I guess I gotta start somewhere right? I'll probably start off by visiting manufacturer websites and online shops to see what info I can compile and move on to the forums, etc.

If this really develops into something substantial and the info is organised well, I would think it would attract more people to the forum, and for manufacturers who don't have a prominent English web presence, this could be one way of helping them and attracting them to the forum as well?

Would this be a worthwhile venture, or a waste of time?

I think that is an excellent idea guitarpug! I've got some basic descriptions on my reviews site of some of the manufacturers here:
table Tennis Manufacturers

However some are a little outdated, and there are many missing as well, so a thread like this is a great idea!

Yes haggisv, reading that link was what started me on this thread. I'll use what is already there as a starting point and work it up from there! :D

If anyone else comes across interesting bits of info you might think is relevant, please post the link in this thread. Depending on how busy I am, I may not get to check it out straight away, but I WILL get to it. Every little bit helps! Thanks in advance!

Sounds great! If your idea proves popular, we could generate a thread for every manufacturer... it's surprising hard to find information on most of the companies... Some I got from their websites, some from personal knowledge, but many others I could find nothing but a few one-liners on other websites...

Yes, I'm finding the same problem, plus some sites are probably in Chinese and I'm ashamed to say I can't read Chinese! :(

By the way, are you aware of any TT magazines sold here in Australia? I looked at Borders but they don't have anything...

Good idea, GP! :)

Here is a fairly comprehensive list of manufacturer links compiled by computerboy1982 (I love that nick...) in HongKong.
You might find something of use there :)

I saw some, may not be current ones thought, in a non - TT equipment shop at the Adelaide China town. But can't remember which shop now.

brab: oops! hehe - my mistake!

jixiaolan: are the magazines produced here, or imported? (eg. from China) I can't read Chinese, so I'd like a mag in English. :)

Sorry unable to respond earlier. The megs are in chinese!!!  And imported from outside Australia. I did asked the shop owner.

One member in this forum, can't remember who, had provided a web site address for "TT World". These are previous issues released by the publisher concerned for free reading. But again, in chinese!

Guitarpug, I come across translation of TT material, may not be from the same mag, posted in this forum. Translation work might be done by forum members. Great stuff. Highly informative too.

Anyway, if you need help to do translation on any chinese TT articles, I would be willing to give a hand. Just let me know.

That was me, jixiaolan :) The TT World thread is over here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7071

It is very nice of you to offer translations, jixiaolan. Very nice indeed. :D
Personally, I think it would be great if you found some stuff for the penholder section as good info on penhold always comes from China. Good articles about shakehand are all over the place in English already. :) What do you think?

No, no, please don't leave us out.

Good articles are usually in Chinese, and hard to come by. :(

I didn't ask you, Yuzuki, did I? Hehehehehe

But you are of course right. We don't want to leave you shakehanders out, you are already at a disadvantage from an aesthetic point of view, aren't you? :eye:

Seriously though, any articles coming out of China would be a great source of info to the forum as that information is on a higher philosophical and scientific level to that of most Western sources available. A dream would be to have a few Chinese translators to trawl and pick up info in the Chinese forums and bring it here. Not sure that is doable though, but the gauntlet has been thrown down now, so... :)
