Or maybe you should go to that hyper-long "executing table tennis shots" thread and see what everyone's been talking about the last 20-30 screens... namely, executing a different sort of backhand topspin drive (I forget that it's called - the "lunge"?). Of course, everyone posting on that thread plays shakehands, but I wonder how much of it might apply to RPB. Could you play like Harimoto using RPB?? Is there a penhold version of the strawberry?? You know what they used to say on late night TV, enquiring minds want to know...

Iskandar
Qiu Dang, in his recent tournaments did play like Harimoto with his backhand. And yes, you can execute the strawberry flick easily, the most effective with the forehand side.

I'm sure the strawberry (like the banana) is strictly a backhand flick. At least, with the shakehands grip it is. The banana RPB is common, but I haven't seen anyone do a strawberry RPB.

The strawberry flick is a flick, and is like you draw a strawberry, it doesn't matter the side of the racket you use to do it. The TPB/forehand strawberry is very common on penhold players, just search for "Xu Xin strawberry" or "penhold strawberry".

And you cand also do RPB strawberry, at least I can do it, see the video belowhttp://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/5ebe67f2d4f7e/VID-20200515-WA0006.mp4

I know him since last year, somebody told me that a french kid playing penhold grip came to Bucharest and beat all our Romanian kids, including European and World Champion Darius Movileanu.

He's good but his forehand lacks of power, maybe he needs a Chinese tacky rubber.

European players don't use tacky rubbers and I think that's because of their coaches, the same coaches that will tell you that penhold players can't attack on their backhand side with the other rubber.

And while everybody accuse the Chinese players for boosting their hard and tacky rubbers, I heard about some professional romanian youngsters (if not all of them) that not only that are using some of the fastest Tensor rubbers (Tibhar MXP/Dignics 05) but they also boost them, at 10 years, when they should focus on technique and improve the speed and spin from their body with some "unfriendly" rubbers.

But I can bet that in a couple of years many players will discover the chinese rubbers, and they will pay >80€ for that Hurricane Neo 3 with butterfly logo on it (Dignics 09C).

I'd have thought that since he's bought into the Chinese Penhold Xu Xin style, he'd try to copy everything equipment wise too.

Are you SURE he's not using H3?

He's not Xu Xin at all, he is backhand dominant and has a shy forehand.

I'm sure that he's using the same MXP & Andro s***. Euro players don't use chinese tacky rubbers at all on pro level, and even on amateur level you can hardly find someone using it on his forehand.

Oh come on. You hardly see anyone playing penhold, either. How do you know what he uses?? You're just making assumptions...
