Still learning to brush the ball to generate spin, but I always tend to smash the ball :@
I am now using Roots 4 with Rakza 7 soft, which gives good control.

I have been teaching myself how to do this over the past 2-3 months as well and I must asay that after a frustrating first few weeks the progress has been great. When I came back to the game about 6 months ago or so, I was mostly flat hitting the ball and not really looping. So I started to work on that and it got to the point that I would either miss the ball completely, or get the top edge or revert to old habits with too much forward motion and not enough upward and hit the ball. I even started playing medium pips OX for a bit and it helped I think. I had to generate a lot of upward hand speed to get the ball to lift and arc over th net with OX medium pips and that helped me develop my hand speed and shift my balnce from more forward motion/less upward to the opposite.

I can say that now I loop more than I hit. :)

Until now I find that I can land more balls on the table with Roots 4, so I have been using it for over
2 months now. I am trying counter hit with some spin, and hope to increase the spin gradually. I guess it is a bit difficult to improve for an old man :(
