Manika Batra vs Chen Meng highlights WC

Her style is based mainly on "disruption" - forcing errors on the part of her opponent by the use of long pips and constant twiddling. But it doesn't work on the likes of Chen Meng - in fact, in this game I see Batra making a lot more errors than her opponent does - mainly hitting the ball long or into the net, often on serve return. She does have enough power to mount the occasional attack but an attack by her opponent into the pips usually results in a weak or missed return. Because she twiddles, theoretically she should be able to attack with the inverted on both sides and should have a bigger selection of shots than someone who doesn't twiddle. The downside would be that it's also possible to get confused, or caught out with the wrong rubber and being forced into giving a weak return.

I agree, but she uses this same game against other players to great affect, so i'm sure it depends a lot on how the opponent can adjust to this style.

I have seen a lot of matches from her ... and it depends on 2 things ......
The opponent, and her own mindset.
what I noticed ......
Some keep hitting on her BH and then she starts the twiddle and the opponent then switches to FH it often goes wrong.
Well .. atleast more wrong then good. If it happens a few times then it switches in her head ..... and then it's gone match.
She'll walk with hung shoulders and there is no real fight in her anymore.

BUT .. I realy love her playing style. It's a bit on how I want to play with LP. Get the speed out off the game and attack quickly

Manika should have just blocked back in the first game to get to "expedite" and take the defender out of her game.

Can't see the ball. Bad video or bad eyesight.

The video's bad. This was in the Round of 32, and wasn't at one of the premium tables, so they didn't put one of the expensive cameras on it. Probably just a webcam. Watch it full screen, it's better, you can make out the ball at least part of the time.

I don't think it's the camera that's bothering, but the lighting.

The camera angle paired with the lightning made all the qualifications on this year's German open absolutely unwatchable.
They fixed it only for the last two days..

Came across this a few days ago. She's improved. What HAS improved seems to be her forehand attack, though - a lot more consistent, many fewer mistakes. (Szocs is, of course, no Chen Meng.) She beat Szocs, (who also lost another game to an Indian player) but India lost 3-2 to Romania and the team didn't qualify. She'll get another chance to qualify for a (singles) Olympic spot in April, in Bangkok. I'll have to see what's going on at the time, might be worth trekking up there to watch. Flights are cheap, hotels aren't too bad either. Traffic is horrible..

Szocs squeals a lot..

I wonder what the problem was. Looks like she has trouble reading the spin, mostly underestimating the topspin. Britt was constantly targeting Batra's backhand, and the ball would often be blocked way high and long. She gets less shaky in the fourth game, some of the best rallies are towards the end. Britt plays with inverted both sides, in case anyone was wondering.
