This is a neat little video I found on youtube that shows Hou Yingchao training with some guy. If your interested in chopping with short pips, this has some nice slow, close-up shots of him. Note the angle he's chopping at...not the same as Joo or Chen (they use long pips).

Very nice thanks.

He seems to chop straight down with his inverted side (I don't know how- I can't do this), but chops at 45d with his pips- about the same as I've been doing with Pimple Mini.

HY's main problem that I've noticed is that he'll pretty frequently send a chop from his SP side too high, which lets his opponent just start smashing to his forehand, with which he can't loop consistently enough to win the point most times. If he could keep all of chops low, then he'd certainly have a much easier time.

True, but that's the trade-off he gets for using short pips as opposed to long; less consistent chopping in exchange for spin variation and attacking potential.

One thing I love about his game is how he mixes so much sidespin in both his chops and his loops. I've been trying to do that a bit more because as a lefty, I think my forehand sidespin loop gives a bit more trouble than a normal right-handed one.

What blade and rubbers Hou Yingchao uses?

I believe he uses a Hurricane Classic blade with either G666/Hurricane 3 on the Forehand and TSP Spectol on his backhand.

Hi

Where I can watch some videos of Yingchao's matches? I saw all of youtube videos, but they are not good quality (I can hardly see the ball on those videos). I like his play very much and my style is similar so I want to watch more videos of him.

Have you checked on Martinspin's site?

http://com.martinspin.ch/

I think he has some matches with Hou...

Another option is using the search function on mytt.net where I think some people have uploaded matches onto megaupload so you can download them to your computer.

Hou Yingchao's blade is DHS 08B. But, he is not using either G666 or Hurricane 3 now.

I though I saw that he was using 802 with some special sponge?

I have not seen this blade before, it is new or old?

I have tried chopping off the table with short pips, I found it very hard to keep it low and to get any big chop on the ball, I do notice that his action is very wristy maybe that is the secret. If I play LP like that my coach yells at me, go to be shoulder, elbow and then wrist action BTW

I haven't seen any matches from him in the past year or so. I think he's only been playing in the Chinese super leagues. If I were to guess I'd assume he's still using the same blade/backhand rubber but has switched to a Chinese-style glue replacement rubber for the forehand.
