Yuto is back!!

He's a member of the Ryukyu Asteeda team and is participating in the T League. He played his first match beating Wong Chun Ting 3-2. Waiting for the video to pop up somewhere but the result itself tells us his match form is top notch.

(btw Joo is his teammate so there should be a video of him playing too)

:o :o :o :o

Unrelated to Yuto, seems a bit lame the last guy celebrating so heavily against Joo... maybe if he'd beaten prime era Joo, it would be warranted. But beating a guy who just recently came out of retirement and is nowhere near what he used to be -- tacky and sad!

He should walk over there and shake Joo's hand, then thank him for the opportunity to play a LEGEND!

You didn't see the people who beat Waldner well after his prime showboating around like conquering heroes. :^)

+1 Manofan. Playing and beating a legend in a crunch match to give his team victory - of course his joy and celebration knew no bounds with no disrespect to Joo at all. He must be very privileged to play against Joo - a man every one in the TT world knows and respects to the utmost I am sure. :)

Our boy Yuto is looking good... Look at how much underspin is on his chops at 1:07 when he misses into the net :o :o

You know... I recall a post you made where you said when you chop, you don't really feel the blade; it's all pips and sponge (I think that's what you said?). But in the video, Yuto uses frikkin thick sponged SP, and you can clearly hear the impact of the ball's sound on his racket, and it's loud. How in the world does he do that? :o And the way he chops sometimes, the motion is so relaxed and he's not trying to swing as hard as he can and brush very seriously and finely, at least, in my perspective it seems. I could be wrong. And the ball comes so... smoothly and slowly, as if all that power in Chuang's shots get absorbed!

So I played a session in quite a bit and tried chopping the way Yuto does in that video; obviously I'm nowhere near having good technique, feel, swing speed, wrist, etc. as he has, but my chopping felt a lot lot better, and I could consistently get back shots from my dad. They didn't feel dangerous at all, but it felt stable. I think one interesting thing is that the way Yuto chops in the video, you can clearly see that whenever the ball comes to his midsection rather than to his left, which is where he usually chops the ball, he can still slightly adjust his stroke to contact the ball more towards his middle/to his right and it will go back with some sidespin; I think I was able to pull that off too.

He's still young, I hope he can get back to international competitions. I think it's easy to forget how good he actually was.

I hope so, too. An interview on the Victas site (must be at least a year old) concludes with these mysterious words :) :

What will be very interesting is year 2020. “I can’t say anything on that yet. However, I think that with chop I have more than enough of a chance to win worldwide.” Thus, an unpredictable man heads out carefree into the world.

Hopefully we will see more of him in 2020!

Here's a video recording of his match with Wong Chunt Ting. Unfortunately, it's only the latest set, I hope the full match will appear somewhere at a certain point
