I don't think he plays long pips, but short ones... I remember match situations where he's close to the table, chops and the other guy puts the ball into the net because of the backspin. Also in the long range defense the opponent can lift his backspin easier when compared with a good chop from a long pip.

Has anyone heard of him lately? He hasn't gained any ITTF points since august, but his ranking has improved a little (isn't that odd???):

December 2011 69 2034.00
November 2011 70 2034.00
October 2011 72 2034.00
September 2011 70 2034.00
August 2011 nf 73 2034.00
July 2010 * 332 1455.00

Are there any more videos of him on the chineese sites (requires the chineese spelling of his name)?

whatever he uses. He's pretty awesome. Hope he climbs up the ranks and becomes a real contender.

Maybe losing to a lower ranked player makes you lose points?

I haven't heard of him since August.

From what I can see he has no records of any matches since august, therefore his score hasen't changed. But his ranking has, that must mean that others ahead of him have been playing and lost points. A little sad that not playing will result in a higher ranking :^)

Does anyone know the the Chinese characters for Liu Yi's name? I'm trying to search up some of his videos on Chinese search engines and whatnot.

Edit: I think I found it, but I'm not entirely sure: "刘燚". Type that into Youku and you'll get a few videos of him playing University matches (I think that's what they are).

Wow! I had no idea he entered that competition. I had kind of forgotten about him. He entered the World ranking very high after one or two good competition, then he disappaered. Goo he is back again    .
There should be some videos worth watching. He beat Jin Ueda as well (who apparently is not that bad against defence, look at Shionos thread), and Shibaev and Chiang. And he won all matches 4-0 or 4-1! I hope they'll let him compete a little more now.

Just watching back to his video against Taku Takakiwa i realized how much an allround but at the same time solid player he is... solid chop both sides, solid and strong FH attack, counterhits and little tricks with lp,some twiddling too... and that was 2 years ago... too bad he's a chinese player so it's difficult we'll se him in action too much...

He beat Yang Zi in straight games. Just now beat Jin Ueda 4-1. Video is available at ITTV.

Next up for Liu Yi is Wally Green (poor fellow...)

Kang Dongsoo is also competing. But he lost his first group match to a fellow from North Korea :(

Here is a video. Anyone knows how to get the real youtube-link (for embedding) while using a iPhone?
