Hi,

Came across an Indian women's player Ayhika Mukherjee's match, for Tokyo qualifier.. This is the first time I've seen her play ..

I've not across another player with this style of LP play, at an international level...

Interesting!! at this pro level , If she twiddled more and pivoted for a fh attack, she would be even more difficult to play against. Also, I would return the serve with inverted on the fh for a change .
However, she plays consistently with a great percentage of the balls on the table .

I have seen her play in many matches before with Flanti on BH (Black) + Inverted on her FH (Red). It appears now she may have changed to short pips on her FH (Red) and still uses Flanti (Black) on her BH. I am not sure what equipment overall? Nevertheless very steady and very awkward opponent to encounter.

Yes, that's her downfall as well! I was going to comment basically what you said, which is why she also loses.

Very consistent, stable backhand... but lacks any real threat. Aside from a punch-block now and again. Though it is relatively safe hitting to her backhand, since she will block and block. Her forehand was not too great either. Pretty slappy and one dimensional as well. You see a lot of players using that style. Block/Smash.

She doesn't play long pips but frictionless anti on backhand and you can clearly see that in the video as well. She is sponsored by Dr. Neubauer and according to his website plays with the following equipment:
Blade: Dr.Neubauer WORLD CHAMPION CARBON flared (OFF-)
Backhand: Dr.Neubauer GORILLA 1.3mm (Anti-Spin)
Forehand: Dr.Neubauer K.O. 2.0mm (Half-long pimples)

Also check out her sister (?) Sutirtha who plays with inverted on BH and probably MP on FH. She beat Romanias best player Szocs at the olympic qualifications.

And they played doubles together, imagine facing that couple [FACE SCREAMING IN FEAR].

Sorry guys ... Just before posting this, I saw the video on a phone, without volume .. I could not see her setup , clearly .. The only reason why I thought it'd had to be LP or Anti, was the way the ball was behaving, on her returns... At one point, I did wonder if she was using some sort of anti, but then I said to myself ... anti - at an international pro level ... naah !!! ...

Anyway, I've changed the thread subject, to include FLANTI ..

I guess her sister uses some sort of MP on FH and inverted on BH.

According to this site Ayhika uses MP K.O. 2.0 on FH:

Did you say Sutirtha uses MP on forehand ? Are you sure ? Ot is it on backhand ?

I am curious what Sutirtha uses now recently, because I saw results of India nationals last week where Ahyhika beat top seed Manika Batra but Sutirtha beat Ayhika 4-0 in the semi finals to get to the finals where defending champion Sreeja Akula beat Sutirtha. Results shows Sreeja won singles, doubles & teams & won bronze in mixed doubles.

Looks like Sutirtha did well also at WTT Goa
https://www.espn.com/olympics/tabletennis/story/_/id/35768524/world-table-tennis-wtt-star-contender-goa-manika-batra-sutirtha-mukherjee

BTW my friend from India laughed when I asked if Sutirtha & Ayhika were sisters because he said the last name Mukherjee is as common a last name as Smith & Jones in the Indian state of Bengal, the home of lots of tigers in India

PS :- But in all fairness, yes Diaz is also as common a name as Smith & Jones but Adriana Diaz has a sister Melanie in WTT as well as two other sisters who are also high level LOL

Ayhika Mukherjee just defeated Sun Yingsha (world #1) with her pips out on one side and frictionless anti on the other. Pretty amazing accomplishment. The match is worth a look if you can view it on youtube (first match on Day 1 on Table 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CThbxcn3KZ8&t=3418s). Fascinating style and tactics.

Totally destructive playing style. FLANTI rubber similar to barewood material, generally recognized as material detrimental for the sport ever since 70s.

Nah, perfectly OK. A friend used to say I don't care what rubber my opponent has, it is just a ball with spin.

Then the chineese girls would have had plenty of time to get used to it, right?
