From the previous videos we've seen Fabian' BH was a majority shot in his game. In this match it was not at all. The BH did cause Ovtjarov problems, but he won most points by being aggressive with his FH, some of which were set up by the BH. (I may be wrong, but that is how it looked to me. I would love to see this match run through ChoPong to get a clearer picture :)

It think the greater use of his forehand and using the BH for setting up is a great improvement for his game performancewise. Yes, it may not be as interesting to look at, but the mix now is still quite unique and effective. With a bit more polishing it willl hopefully take him further up the rankings. It seems he has the talent to improve quite a bit to me.

Åkerström is playing Gacina (Sweden vs. Croatia) right now (GMT13.15) for anyone interested.

I made some statistics of the match between Åkerström and Ovtcharov, just for fun, and discovered that Åkerström hits 73% of his shots with his FH. However, this is of course heavily affected by Ovtcharov's placement but still it's quite interesting.

PS: It would be great if someone could get their hands on the game between Åkerström and Gacina since Åkerström seemed to play very well in that match.

OK, thank you. It must just be this computer. Very annoying though, i haven't seen him play with friction LP.

:@:

Hi AA. Have you seen Akerstrom plays in person? How good is his FH?
From what I see, he can pretty much hold his own FH to FH against top attackers.
I think he has a very bright future.
1. He has VERY good forehand and pretty much play like attackers. I mean how he serves, his footwork and how he place balls.
2. He can block, :) we all know that.
3. He can chop.
4. He flips racket very well.

@bogeyhunter-

he has improved his fh without doubt. i never watched him play in person or attended the same tournament. he played in germany last season and will do so this season in a low league where he shouldnt lose any game, if i am informed correctly.

I was very impressed by his serves!
I noticed he always won at least one of his serves, and caused many direct return mistakes (really good variation.).

I noticed his pips did cause some trouble but it was generally because his opponent was getting impatient. He only won 2 or 3 points during the whole match on the first return with his pips. One was actually quite funny... where Gacina was caught by surprise and the ball left his bat at 90 degrees.

Very interesting game for an aggressive style LP player who will step back and chop if he has to.

There are some conflicting info in articles on the Swedish TT association site about Åkerström. They reveal that for 2009/2010 he has stepped up from Frickenhausens 2nd team to the Bundesliga team alongside Tan Ruiwu, Kenta Matsudaira and Bastian Steger. This is largely due to his improved FH and with it his improved attacking abilities, according to himself.

I dunno which is correct. I guess we have to wait and see when the season starts :)

There was a Frickenhausen match on DTTL recently. Åkerström was sitting there with the team, but he didn't play. I guess they select only three players for the matches and he wasn't one of them.

Finally, watching the Akerstrom v Ovtcharov match. It's great to watch a full match, of a player playing similar to myself....obviously except for he is playing at a professional standard, and is 5 years younger than me! And i am not!

I'm hoping to get the other game now. I'd love to see more of these games.

I'll post this in the other section, but does anyone know what thickness sponge he uses under his pimples? It looks to be very thin. I use ox but am wondering whether i should get some sponge under there...
