Very nice chopper who I got one hour coaching off while she was in NZ for NZ Champs.

Also check out ITTF, ITV, english open, bottom game on list.

Picked to have big future.

Cheers

Wow ...... she's pretty good.

It's not fair to comment her game base on ONE match but I'll try to comment from what I see(2 games).
BTW I know I'm not in position to comment her game but I'll do it in the form of comparing Seo Hyo Won to the best modern defender from her country, Joo se hyuk.

Her chop when opp attacks is really good, very solid BUT when opponent just push her push is not as good as Joo. Joo hit/push lower and faster plus better placement.

She has much bigger "safe zone for opp" on her side. Joo often step around and FH loop on BH corner and Joo's loop is very deadly. Most of the time she just push back and doesn't put much pressure on opp.

Quality of FHs seem to be a big different too. She can chop as well as Joo maybe not as consisten. When not chopping, most of the time she just retreives it back while Joo will counter loop(Chen WX often choose to guide it back, if not chop)

She still make 2-3 easy mistakes/game. Too many at her level. Without these 2-3 easy mistakes, she would be very tough to beat.

I think I found a picture of her for you, Greggy.
Do you recognise her?

The picture should show up in the first post above.

The video is available at itTV http://www.ittf.com/_front_page/itTV.as ... y=ittv_New
Browse to English Open, Sheffield and click that. Then look for the match at the very bottom of the list. it is between Seo Hyo Won and Wu Jiadu :)

Thanks again bcbcbc. I'll have to try and download it.

Greggy I was sat 20 yards away for that match. There were 12 matches on though so I not sure what match I was mainly watching at the time. On the vid she got off to a good start and looked to be playing quite nicely. Watching the matches has helped my game.

I saw the other lady play doubles against the koreans (I think) and she looked to play more thoughtfully against the defence than her partner who started off well, particuarly against chop, but didn't seem to read the variation of spin quite so well. The tactics of the german ladies (or there coach) seemed to be to have Wu been more agressive as opposed to the other lady more patient and it didn't seem to work so well. The other lady hit her share of winners, but missed more as the Koreans got up to speed and the match went on.

I was lucky to get some coaching from her and as I said before she was really nice to me, We did some drills and I cracked out some of my backhand LP hits and she and the other Koreans smiled with approval. You have love that serve, sometimes heavy chop others heavy top spin. I am still practicing it, several things make it hard but I think this applies to all serves, taking the ball very low almost at table height and long soft stroke and the hardest part for me is not lifting up my elbow at the end of the action ( this takes off all the spin I got ) and trying to hit the ball as hard as you can sideways but not much forward action. I have used it in games and sometimes I get it right and I smile, even if if comes back with chop on it I can chop it back.

I have found some more of her on ITTF, she played at the Belarus open.

She seems to be a bit patchy in her game sometimes she plays well others time not well.

Cheers

Greggy

I fixed the links. She beat the #2 seed in the top link. The final 16 has four choppers left. Women's professional TT is so much more interesting than the men's version.

Thanks. I generally agree wholeheartedly about women's tt but this week we've got Joo as 1 seed and a kid I hadn't even heard of a few days ago in the mens last 16 so that's pretty cool too. Two other young choppers in the boys u 21.

Between the china and korea tourneys I've seen enough new girl choppers that I've lost track.
