Anyone thinks Seo has changed her game? She FH floats more and those serves are NASTY!!! |

To me, she was often taking the ball higher, sending her chops back faster with little spin. In one of her matches, the commentator was discussing that many of her chops had lots of sidespin. I wonder if this is also new, as I hadn't noticed it previously. Perhaps these are adjustments that she is making to the poly ball. Steven |

I also noticed she floats or sidespins everything. This is why Kasumi killed her. I didn't notice Seo sending ANY heavy underspin chops. Interesting thing is that my Korean coach told me to chop this style as well -- putting sidespin on the ball, rather than trying to put heavy underspin. |

That match was the final of the 2013 Polish Open. To me, in that match, it looked like she was making lots of heavy chops on her forehand, very different from the Kasumi match. I should watch her match against Kasumi in the final of the 2013 Korean Open, to see if there are large differences compared to her match on Sunday. Changing topics a bit, during one of her matches, it was neat that the commentator mentioned the sister of Seo Hyowon. Her sister was one of the coaches at the Shin Jae Kook TTC where I played regularly in Seoul 1 1/2 years ago. It was nice to hear the name of someone that I know on ITTV. Steven |

I took some private lessons from a coach that trained some pros in japan, and he also told me to chop like this with sidespin, kind of like Yuto Muramatsu does. |

more than 2 ppl also taught me to add some sidespin on FH chop. 2 reasons - 1. ball will curve left to the longest part of the table. 2. This way R elbow will be away from shoulder = easier to chop low with late timing. Tried for a while but never comfortable doing it. I wasn't born to be traditional D. |

Steven I took Adam to that club once, (I think it was before I met Birding & TT there) so he knows of it. He probably also reads the forums. |

I watched the highlights of the Seo/Kasumi final of the 2013 Korean Open on youtube, which Seo won 4-3. Seo performed plenty of forehand chops with heavy backspin. Perhaps her choice to perform a large number of float in this final deals with her response to the poly ball. Steven |
