Very interesting, I have not seen instruction on this before.

What would be the point of holding up the other hand? It it to point at the ball, or more of a balance thing?

Maybe for timing? I think he said when the ball reaches your outstretched hand that's when you remove it and hit the ball with your paddle...

holy crap on a cracker that's a big smash!

It's really a coordination thing. Any movement that has both limbs moving isometrically will have higher stability and accuracy. (From a motor control and learning perspective), hence the frequent requst from coaches in all forms of racket sports telling their players to aim with the other hand.

Again, HUGE smash!
