Very informative, after extensive attempts, I started to get the ball to come back into the net, although I often hit the edge of the blade. :D

The more you hit up on the side of the ball facing the other end (ie. the "front" of the ball), the less speed you need to generate and the more controlled it can be. You don't want to put force "into" the ball. Just enough to carry it to bounce less than 1 foot inside the net on your side and bounce no more than that to the other side if possible. The lower the bounce the better. You can get it to return to the net after only going about half table or less. It takes a "LOT" of practice to be good enough at it to use it in a match though. I've practiced this on and off for years and never been happy enough with the consistency of the result to make it a staple serve. I have used it in practice matches with mixed results. People usually under-estimate the spin on the first one and net it. Then they adjust for it. Of course if you can disguise the strike point to curl the bat around it and make it topspin (in a way that can't be seen easily), then you have an awesome weapon.

Indeed Sir Reb, the ball will be much slower if struck in the front part and the ball acceleration comes purely from the rubber's friction. Now with a tacky rubber ain't that possible, even Euro/Jap rubber could do it (I could do it with my Volcano and Schlager could do it with his Bryce ;))

I could do this consistently BUT that weapon you said on the end of your post Sir is what I am training, since I could only make a light topspin without losing deception.
Now that you accidentally remind me I will train it again. Thanks Sir :D
