This would be quite a handy loop to have going down the line:

Does anyone actually play this type of shot?

The level of difficulty on that shot is silly! If I was able to pull of something like that just once in my life I would be content with my tt

You guys can laugh all you want but with Seemiller grip, a faded forhand is a natural stroke. I get a high percentage of my points with that exact shot.
When I played shakehands for a year, I got the moniker, Hookshot. Just about the opposite of the fade.
Being left handed makes the fade even better as it fades away from the other guy. :D

I have done it many times (only during practice) but not as good as WLQ, the trick is the fake move to the left.

The inside out/fade loop is a lot easier from a step-around than straight on like in that clip. It is indeed quite easy with windshield-wiper grips, but certainly within reach of shakehanders who make an effort to learn it. Note that part of why this shot looks so good on video is because of the opponent; it's going to lefty timo's open forehand court, rather than to where a righty is camped out for a backhand.

For a bit more of a challenge, try an inside-out counterloop from the backcourt on the forehand side.

I'm not laughing at all -- it's one of the many reasons I changed from the shakehand grip. That, and a massively better backhand!

And as a fellow southpaw I definitely enjoy the inside out forehand loops as well. :-)

A little more about that loop,,,
My normal loop is straight over the ball. If you look close at the side loop, he is not going just across the ball. It is a combination of top and side. There is no way I get as much spin, (top or side) as he did. I don't glue and am definatly not his level but my shots do curve alot and they are fast.
The way to do that is "simple" really, in theory anyway. You just hit "late" in front of you instead of next to you. You are tipping the loop over on its side. Exactly what I keep telling my students "not" to do.
With Seemiller grip, the blade angle is also favoring the side component.
Kagin also was the only one to notice it was from a righty to a leftys open forhand. I am left handed and play mostly rightys which opens the forhand to that shot.
The hook is just the opposite, pull the bat behind you and hit out and around the ball. With shake I used it all the time, especially against pen holders as the hook would come sliding in across their backhand and was harder for them to block. (lefty hook to righty pen)
The hook and the fade are basically loops tipped on the side. They have less margin for error because some of the loop arc is used to curve the ball to the side, not bring it back down to the table. :D

You know, I always get caught out on those.

I do hooks, but I tend to lack the footwork to make an inside-out. It seems to me that you need to be a little more to the side of the ball than a normal loop. Well, either that or alter the stroke a little.

Hmm seems that most of you guys can do that shot 0_o!

Inside out loops are not difficult to do, I can do quite effective ones when the chance arises but the youtube video is just something else. Its a inside out grazing sort of counterloop against extremely heavy top which is a totally different story.

Perhaps against a slow moving ball, yes? Against an opponent of that caliber, indeed, I don't I could.

It's an interesting loop, alright -- looks to me to be very similar to a normal loop, actually.
