Played with the Attack 8M Super-I version (43 hardness 1.2 mm lavender sponge) in red. While it looks similar to Attack 3M, the pips are smaller, harder and closer together. The result is a much harder feeling rubber, more suitable to the power game I play. I'd call it similar but higher quality compared to the Giant Dragon 8228 FC I usually use, but with smaller pips. Blocks are flatter and faster compared to Attack 3, with aggressive punch blocks and flips natural to do. Conversely pushes tend to pop up, so need a more delicate touch, so topspin is preferred. The spin of your opponent carries through more compared to Attack 3, which tends to just scrub off the spin, so more opportunities to continue the spin from your opponent. That also means you need to be more careful about angle against sidespin as the ball may spin off the table. Forehands have a satisfying crack and a very flat trajectory, the skid that conventional players hate to see and is very hard to deal with. Loops against underspin aren't quite as easy as with Attack 3, but still doable. A fast roll is an effective shot and with the thin sponge can be easily placed. Spin on serves is reasonably good, enough to create problems and controllable for short or long serves. Very fine placement was possible without the lack of umph I see with OX rubber. I'd be very interested in trying this in a thicker sponge (1.5, again the Super I-43 version) and the larger pips, type L as this would possibly offer some additional attacking possibilities. |

does anyone know how to order Armstrong Attack 8? Armstrong lists the thickness as total thickness of the rubber+sponge. http://tt-japan.net/index.php?main_page ... cts_id=992 So if I want a 1.5 sponge, should I order "2.5" or "3.0"? anyone knows the thickness of the top sheet? |

Judging by the Armstrong Website, I would guess the topsheet is 1.2mm. I find them highly confusing as well.

Topsheet is 1.2. I order them from a Korean site. liberott.com This site lists the sponge thicknesses, they also carry numerous sponge hardnesses. The M type is really like a long pips rubber that attacks well. The L type is the way to go unless you want to chop a lot. |

More similar to short pips than long, can push with them but better to flip. It's a soft pip, not a hard one so it does react to spin. |
