Fantastic pics Yuzuki! The black background really brings out the colours well!

Totally agree.

One size head does it have? How does it compare to other blades you have? It's a pity you have to cover up wood blades with bits of rubber when you see how beautiful they look "naked".

TSP-Yamato website says:

  • Fast speed
  • 5-ply all-wood blade
  • 65g +/- 5g
  • 155mm x 146mm (LxW) headsize
  • 8mm thickness
  • 100mm x 23mm (LxT) handle size

A review will be done probably shortly.

Good thing I asked haggisv about the backgrounds. Colors could have been much better, but I would am inclined to think that color accuracy is also important.

It's like an OFF-to-low-end OFF+ blade, with a similar looping feel as the Avalox P500 (again?!).

It does have a hollow-feeling instead of a very stiff feeling (very common in OFF- blades). Looping is a joy with this blade.

Because of the weight (or the lack of it), hand speed is pretty easy to keep up throughout a session.

Tenergy doesn't seem to fit very well as expected, probably because the blade is too flexible. Blade flexy and sponge flexy usually ends up not very good in my book. Perhaps if we use Spinart...

Chinese rubbers probably work well on this for a hard forehand rubber.

The handle is more of an oval shape than a boxy shape.

At first, I wasn't very excited after the first few balls. It's not very bouncy; has excellent dwell time; has a good top-end.

Then I played a game, did some short services to get into the short game. I netted quite a few balls.

Which made me think, 'It's like a KLHS with a more dynamic feeling and gears, with a lower low end gear.'.

After adjusting a bit for the service and return, I started to get excited! Something a bit fast but is easy to handle on the short game.

Not sure why photo won't show up. Either can't upload from my phone (android) or connection problem. Anyway, photo is up on instagram if you want to see.

Cheers!

Nice! Can anyone who has experience of both, describe any playing differences between the Versal and the Donic Cayman?

No end grain balsa though. Wonder if it has the fiberglass.

The Versal is an all-wood blade.

So it's got the advantages/disadvantages of other balsa blades? (i.e. not good for away from the table play or looping but good for hitting and blocking..)

Well, Yuzuki 's review above said it's a great looping blade... Unfortunately, I won't know because I won't be playing with this particular one. I'll try to find another one without the signature to play with.

This blade is super light - 65g

32g lighter than my Stiga Carbonado 290 which is 97g.

I developed golfers elbow with the heavy Stiga blade unfortunately. Zero pain with this blade but pain returns almost immediately with the 290 Stiga.

Tried many blades and this TSP blade has exceptional control.

I can develop more spin on this blade than just about any other but away from the table especially on the forehand i struggled big time hitting many balls in to the net.

Its sneaky fast - more offensive than off minus.

Blocks are super consistent. Throw is quite low.

I use the same two rubbers with my Stiga blade.

Tibhar MXP black on the forehand and a blue Donic Bluestorm Z1 Turbo on the backhand.

Thoroughly recommend the TSP blade. Lovely feel too.

Hey Mac33,
If you like the Versal, you may like the Black Balsa. Slightly faster, same weight. Good quality blade. Too light for me, but my wife loves it

The Black Balsa 6.0 is the same weight - 65g

The 7.0 is 10g heavier at 75g.

https://revspin.net/blade/tsp-black-balsa-70.html

I am loving my Versal even though its pen grip and i play shake hand.

Getting more spin on my forehand especially sidespin.

Loving my slow off forehand sidespin against a slower opponents ball played in to my right hip especially.

Everyone thinks it has more topspin than it has and so many hit it in to the net or get surprised by the extreme sidespin on it and miss it on the angle to my backhand side.

Have a shake hand Versal on order but worried it might not be as good.

I do miss the power flat drives the Stiga 290 produces.

I used it for less than a single game last week and after hitting a heavy topspin on my backhand i got another one of those very painful twitches on the inside of my elbow so its going in to hibernation for 6 months.
