I suppose with one sheet of OX pips out and one sheet of inverted it shouldn't weigh too much...

Below some snapshots of a special custom made blade for Allround Players & Defenders, created by a small high quality wood manufacturer in Eastern Europe.

It is rather thin: only 4,9 mm. 7ply (5 + 2) with two carbon inlays.
Comes originally without handles and with an XXL-Oversize-Head - so that every customer can cut it down to the preferred personal size and can also create his own favourite grip.

I haven't changed the head size so far. It is still 183 x 170 mm (length in total: 283 mm). Yesterday I have mounted two Stiga Alsér Vintage handles from 1971 - making the weight in total 131 g.

I intend to cut it down to 168 x 156 mm - which might reduce the weight to approximately 120 g. Still very heavy, of course.... :mm:

Yesterday I have settled for a head size of 172 x 159 mm. Bringing the weight of the blade finally down to 118,8 g.

I know some people like heavy table tennis blades. What are some of the heaviest you've seen?

Heavy blades that come to mind are:
Masunov
Joo Sea Hyuk
Joola Chen Defender

Any others?

Butterfly Clearfield, used by the famous former Olympics women silver winner Chen Jing. She has short pips on BH.
I have three of this blade 110g, 102g, 97g

If you want to drop your bat weight massively put a sheet of TSP Spectrol SP 2.0 mm on one side.

It has tons of grip and plays very close to an inverted rubber.

To give you some idea how much it will drop the weight....

I have a Schlager carbon with two inverted that weighed in at 191g. The weight was out my comfort zone so i bought a sheet of inverted Dr Neubacher Domination 1.2mm which dropped the bat to around 182/ 183g and it made a big difference.

Anyway, i have a Stiga 290 blade that is the same weight as my Schlager carbon.

I have a sheet of Xion Tau 11 black on it cut 7mm higher on the blade. I then put a sheet of red Spectrol and on the same scales it is showing only 163g or 19g lighter than my inverted with 1.2mm sponge. Remember the 1.2mm Dr Neubauer was 9g lighter than my other max sponge inverted rubber so in total i calculate around 28g in total from my original inverted which changes the bat from very heavy to light.

So much easier with this setup to flick the backhand with consistency.

Might get a few more sheets of this to radically lighten up my other bats.

Yeah, these are meant for use with one very light rubber sheet (long pips). I suppose the idea is the finished bat will weigh more or less what a lighter blade would weigh with two sheets of inverted.

Those 1970s cheap Chinese basswood blades also tend to be terribly heavy. And those were NOT meant to be used with long pips, so the finished bats were REALLY heavy.

Back in those days, single side playing penhold was the predominant style in China, so a heavier blade only with one side rubber is not that terribly heavy. And I think in the 70s, it was no so easy to get access to exotic light woods, so the DHS 032 blade was using a wood they was and still is popular for making furniture

Know someone who has a Schlager Lite 5 ply that weighs 97g.

I tried it with a max sponge Dignics 05 and a max Tibhar MXP both rubbers cut to the bottom of the blade and it came in at 198g.

I simply was too scared to do a backhand loop with it.

For each one millimetre you place the rubber above the base of the blade you drop a single gram in weight.

I am starting to like really off plus blades with at least one light or super light rubber to reduce weight.

You still get the nice solid feel and speed that all round and defensive blades can never give.

Blade: ?
FH: ?
BH: ?
Heaviest, Stiga Pro Clipper Wood Blade at 115g. I think this was the second blade I ever bought and had inverted on one side and short pips on the other. Can't remember the combination.

One of lightest, and best fast hitting blade I've ever used - Andro Super Core Carbon Light off+ at 70g. Best combination I had with this was Xiom Zeta (Asia) FH and 802-40 Supersoft BH
