Do we? Because that P500 top definitely isn't Koto.

I don't have P500 so I don't know for sure. It is just everywhere I read, everyone says it's Koto. Hmmm, could be all those guys were wrong? Probably Silver is correct, if he really knows which ayous is and which koto is.

TBS is Koto also, isn't it Silver? If TBS is Koto, I can use that as reference to compare to P500 in your picture.

Thanks, this is probably a trivial matter, but I am just curious.

hmm
maybe I'm wrong.
It feels too soft to be koto. It *looks* like a quartersawn rayflaked ayous...

I think I'll have to concede the point and say I'm wrong. I think it is koto...

Could we find somewhere in just one picture the different types of woods used in TT blades? I think it would be a really valuable piece of information. I've been looking for it in the net but there's nothing clear around. Just as an example, something like this:

http://www.csscdoors.com/images/species-door.jpg

This would be used all over the world by EJs.

I guess I could compile something.
I'm away for work at the moment, so I'll see what I can whip up on the weekend.

Nice Silver, thanks! No need to hurry though, it's just that with one picture I can finally figure out with what I'm playing, more or less...

About the Koto-Ayous-Discussion:

Take a look at the cutting edge!!!

If you see the typical capillaries - it's Koto!
If you don't - maybe ayous, maybe Limba, maybe something else...

If i find the time, i will make some pictures of some wood...

Now I'm curious. Any idea what kinds of wood make up the Yasaka Extra blade?

Kiso Hinoki is the most common and also the most expensive. Others I've seen is Pine (heavy with high vibration), Ayous and other types of Hinoki.

From the blade composition thread

Yasaka Extra: anegre-limba-ayous-limba-anegre

Looking at a picture of the Ma lin carbon on the net, I'd guess it's Limba-Limba-Carbon-Ayous-Carbon-Limba-Limba. You could tell for sure if you had one in person because most Yasaka blades are made from standard common blade making species. They tend to only use woods that are known to work well.

Thank you sir,

I have both blades.
I still need to learn how to see the different type of ply in there :(
At the moment I know the carbon layer - as it is a black line lol, other than that :n:
