I'm making a list for people looking for those thinner, flexier and slower 7-ply all-wood blades. Those that are not specially great at anything particular. True allrounders imo.

My benchmark for a classic 7-ply would be something like Stiga Clipper. That's not what I'm looking for. But those that are closer to 5-plies in terms of caracteristics. And max 6.4 mm thickness

Please comment if you want anything added or removed to/from the list, and I'll check up on the blade and edit if I see that it fits the caracteristics or not :)

List:

- Donic Persson Powerplay (+ senso v1/v2)

- Avalox P700

- Avalox BT777

- Avalox Edge 7

- Avalox Hado/Hado G2

- Avalox J-power

- Tibhar Samsonov Force Pro

- TSP Swat

- TSP Swat Speed

- Nittaku Adelie

- Nittaku Ludeack

- Nittaku Factive 7

- Nittaku Septear Lead

- Nittaku Goriki

- Gewo Aruna Off

- DHS Power G7

- DHS Power G9

- Yinhe Kiso 7

- Darker 7p2a

- Xiom Solo

- Yasaka Galaxya

- 729 Hao Shuai L-5

- Andro Timber 7

Gewo Aruna Off is a 6mm thick 7ply. Very nice feeling and plenty of flex, just a tad faster than most of my 5 ply blades but not nearly as fast as a TSP Swat Power (unfortunately the only 7ply I can compare it to).

There was a time when I was trying out (expensive) 7 ply hinoki blades. These were softish, yet fast.

Yinhe Kiso 7
Nittaku Septear
Darker 7p2a

The Darker was the thinnest and lightest - maybe I should revisit it, it would perhaps fit in with my current game. The Septear was a little slower than I thought it'd be. The Kiso 7 was a mite too heavy for me, but felt about right (I was playing with the Yinhe N11 back then).

I should also mention that HRT 7 ply Limba bat... can't remember the name, but it was named after some Chinese fighter jet (J-9 or J-13 or something of the sort). My reaction to it was... meh...

  • Stiga Clipper (I see Ludeback and Adelie, so why not)
  • HRT Clipper Clone (Since, I mentioned Stiga Clipper)

Adelie is actually quite a bit thinner than Clipper like 6mm vs 7mm. Yasaka Galaxya is also more on the thin side like around 6mm.

That sounds similar to the experience I have with bt777, which is not much faster than bt555.
I've actually been thinking to try Swat Power in future if I want something faster, but still relatively light and thinner than 7 mm. But I see it's listed as 6.3 mm at tt11. My BT777 is 6.2, so maybe they're equal in speed?

Have ordered a regular Swat just to try it out.

Hehe cool. I added 7p2a and Kiso 7. Septear looks like it's on the faster side though. How do you find it compared to Clipper?
I added Septear Lead :)

Clipper is my benchmark for 7-plies that are too thick and stiff, so that will not go on there :)
According to info and reviews about Adelie and Ludeack, they're not as stiff as Clipper. They have more 5-ply caracteristics.

Should I add Tibhar Szöcs Signature 1 and Akkad to the list as well?

I used to have a Clipper, years back, and even today, a couple of my fellow club-members play with it .. It, does not seem thick, and most certainly not 7.00mm ... In terms of stiffness.. I'll agree, it's stiff, but not much, compared to Ludeback (I've played with Ludeback a coupla itmes... can't say about Adelie)

What about Yasaka Maxwood? According to reviews (there're almost none) it's quite stiff and fast even though it's only 6.2 mm and is a Classic limba and ayous composition. So must be the special gluening they mention?

Falck W7, is that too fast and stiff for the list?

And P700 is that also too stiff maybe? I know from experience that BT777 is close to 5-ply caracteristics. And P700 should only be a bit stiffer right?

Nittaku has some thin 7-ply all-wood blades, though very expensive and quite heavy:
- Nittaku Goriki Super Cut
- Nittaku Goriki Danshi (seems to be a slightly faster version of the former)
Check Hitomi Sato or Honoka Hashimoto...

There's also a 6-ply version Goriki Super Drive, faster, with smaller head size

Thanks.
I added the regular Goriki. The Super Cut isn't Really in the off- to off range I see, so it won't have those properties of a well balanced blade for controlled offensive game that the others have.
And the Super Drive as you say is 6-ply and according to tt11 it's 6.8 mm :)
