I've never gone through the trouble of repairing blades so I have no experience doing it. I'm wondering what type of wood filler people use to fill in gaps on a damaged blade?

I have used various products, and the best so far is of the Plastic Padding brand, "Kjemisk tre". Haven't found the English version of the product, but should be labeled "Chemical wood" or simply "Wood filler". When you mix in the hardening agent, it is workable for 10-15 minutes. Let it settle for an hour or so after initial hardening before you start shaping and finishing.

I hear that Henkel is rebranding some of their product lines, and I believe the Plastic Padding brand is split to brands Teroson (auto repair) and Loctite (everything else). May be different in your part of the world...

I use Elmer's carpenters wood filler, then seal it with a fast drying polyurethane minwax.

It works good plays good.

I suspect a number of fillers would work. You need something that 1) has really good adhesion to wood (you don't want it to pull loose when you remove a rubber sheet), 2) is reasonably hard, and 3) can be made flat after it hardens with very light sanding using a sanding block. Try it on scrap wood first.

I am pretty sure that wood filler will work out when you "fill" in gap/hole with boundary to keep it within the target area. Fixing splintered edges is another ball game though. I have some success fixing my edges here by gluing the broken pieces back in place. That, of course, won't work if your pieces were no longer around.
