I went to play some table tennis last night for the first time in years, and when I hit my backhand, it sounded noticeably different than the forehand, much like the difference in sound a celluloid ball makes when it cracks, and the ball went straight down into the table. Rubber is the same on both sides and seemed fine.

This paddle has been sitting in storage for the last 5-ish years, was working perfectly before it was put away, and hasn't been roughed around with, so I'm curious if anyone else had a blade "degrade" or "break" for no reason.

Surely both rubbers lost the grip, can be used as anti top. My advice buy new rubbers if you can afford.

Blade: Stiga Defensive Classic
FH: Victas V>15 Extra 2.0
BH: Stiga Vertical 20 0.5
guessing it's an all wood blade? Ive had a defensive blade sitting in a case split clean down the middle (about a year old). I'm guessing changes in humidity caused this. Also i had an old piece of sriver sitting in my desk for years, it was partially covered by a piece of paper, where the paper was covering it was like new, other side as slick as antispin
