This Christmas season I am hoping to receive a J-pen racket but, not for it's intended use. I want to mod the cork J-pen handle into a handshake racket. The reason is because no where online have I found a square headed shake-hand racket. I am hoping that someone here could instruct me or point me in a direction of either a square headed shake-hand racket or how to mod one.

I think you could order something like that from soulspin or a custom blade maker.

JPEN is actually quite comfortable to use as shakehand without any mod, if you put your thumb on top of the cork where the index finder would curl into if you were playing penhold.

To remove the backside cork (if the blade is single sided), I have had success with using a chisel. Flat side lying on the blade face and slowly, carefully sliding the chisel corner into and under the cork to nudge it off bit by bit. Got to be careful to keep it flat with the blade face and not lift the chisel off the blade face, or risk scratching the blade face. This may be a bit dangerous if it's a soft 1 ply hinoki too, as that wood easily dents, but this method works fine with koto.
