Avalox P-700 with TSP Curl P1R 1.5 mm spongue, seems to work Quite well, The P-700 is the same speed as the Stiga Clipper but it's Off rated. I wouldn't recommend Balsa and Carbon layers in the blade as they make it non linear. There are several off- wood blades in the stiga clipper series which should work well. |

I was told BTY Primorac off - was another option . However, the new version seems to be harder , stiffer and a tad faster .It is rather difficult to find the old version , though . I was wondering if any 5 limba ply blade could do the trick . I don't think slow defensive blades are better for modern defense; instead, off - limba blades give more spin and variation so the defender also has an opportunity to attack , right? |

Stiga Clipper Wood is an excellent blade for chopping. And it is very good for counter attack with proper FH inverted rubber when away from the table. I suggest the heavier exemplar of Clipper if possible. I personally did not tried CR version, it may be better or worse then basic legendary Clipper. |

This is true, and you might want to look at the Xiom Aegis. Great blade. Very big but I downsized mine to 160 x 152, and it plays great. It's fast when you want it to be but very stable for chopping. Also blocks well, soaking up power--no funk, it's too soft for that, but it works. It's a basic 5 ply, limba outer set up. And cheap (ish). I use it with Ox Dornenglanz and Fastarc G 1 2.0. |

Thank you so much to everybody for the suggestions.I wonder which Clipper version is the best for chopping. Also,I don't think all limba based blades are good for chopping.Imo , the thickness of the limba ply is the key. Some time ago I tested a Primorac off - with Feint Long 3 and it chopped very badly, however, with TSP curl p1R in 1.0 it worked well.Maybe FL 3 needs a softer blade? . Got another question : is the Stiga vertical /horizontal 55 a great rival of TSP curl p1r? Some people say the Stigas are easier to control . |

There are several disjoint goals for equipment in chopping game. 1) Maximum generated and reversal underspin. This goal seems to be obsolete with 40+ balls. 2) Maximum and hidden spin variations. More effective when return is fast. I think the choice of pips-out rubber matters here. 3) Maximum control of chopped ball return height and depth. It looks like stronger defenders prefer harder (CR or carbon) blades. I personally belief that 7-ply blades are superior to 5-ply in general away from the table. I like Stiga Clipper's long flat trajectory for the 3rd goal among several similar 7-ply all wood OFF class blades. I cannot rate my chopping for 1 and 2 as I my and my opponents level is not high and stable enough. |

After having tested many oversized Def blades, I just can't handle their weights. So I started looking for an ALL+/OFF- regular sized blade that can chop well. I tested the Clipper mentioned above but the limba is just too bouncy unless you use very slow LP or SP on BH. Since I use Spectol with a thick sponge, the best 3 blades I found suitable are: . BTY Grubba ALL+ (old model) . BTY Primorac OFF- (old model) . Tibhar IV-S SGS I keep playing with the Tibhar because of its feel and control. It's a stiff blade (7.1mm thick) but soft (5 plies of ayous). It can do everything well with a fast tensor on FH. On top of that, it's super cheap and easily found in light weights. |

Juic Kalinic, if you can find one. Basswood is a top tier wood for chopping and defending. |
