What would you recommend for close to the table blocking against very spiny topspins.

I play with grass dtech and tenergy 25. I’ve got an old Butterfly defensive blade but struggling with keeping the spiny loops on the table with my blocks.

Usually stiff not hard blades works at best, but depends a lot of the rubber used.

Not sure what the difference is between stiff and hard and how you can tell

I almost have the same rubbers as you. I have a blade with Grass DTecs OX and Tenergy 19 and I use a customized blade from Re-impact. Blocks great, I've order 3 pcs in total!

Or the other recommendation that works for all blades is, usually spinny loops are slower. So try to block as early as possible. But talking about it is easier than doing it. I wasn't able to block well until I changed to this special blade.

Hard blades are often faster, and soft are generally slower. Soft blades have a longer dwell time, generating more spin. About how impact the ball at the blade, if rebound high or low.

Stiff refer's to the blades flexibility. Flexible blades have a longer dwell time, generating more spin, also perform well for mid-distance looping. Stiff blades are better for smashing. About how flex the blade at the ball impact, if flexs more generate more spin if flexs less generate less spin.

My clubmates love the Butterfly Viscaria. I am a pip player so I have not tried it. But with double inverted it works well.

The classic Tenergy rubbers are very spin sensitive, so trying a less spin reactive rubber might help in blocking loops. I am using 80fx and blocking is really good and a club coach also uses it on his FH for training our best Juniors and also enthuses about how well it blocks hard loop due to good dwell and lowish throw. Tenergy 80 which is similar sponge hardness to 25 is also supposed to be an excellent blocking rubber.

As morning posted above thick balsa blades are great at blocking, but from my experience not so good in other areas.
