I play close to the table and would like to know what would be a good blade for excellent control, I prefer slow blades as I play with Long pimples. Forehand I push and drive the ball but rely on my pimples to give me an opening. I have tried a few Dr N balsa blades but there either to fast or inconsistent since the new ball

I have a Dr Neubauer Hercules for sale which is based off the construction of NSD (hinoki outer with composite layer) though head size of Hercules is compact at 153x153.

What you find inconsistent might probably due to the balsa feature.

Slow def blade: Tibhar COS3, Joola Toni Hold White Spot.

LP doesn’t mean have to be used with slow blades. It’s a matter of preference/play. Lots of people use fast blade for LP. I use both slow and fast blades (and anything in between) for LP.

Slow blades suit me as I play close to the table and a slow blade helps me to control blocks on fast incoming loops and drives

When I was using a slower blade I thought that the Donic Defplay Senso V3 was very good. Now I play with Stiga Cybershape Carbon. It pairs really well with the Hellfire X in OX. As different pips react differently with different blades, you'll want to choose something that works best with your pips of choice. I tried a few pips before settling on the Hellfire X with the Cybershape.

I sometimes play close to the tables using ox lp and fast blades. Tonight I just used Cloud and Fog 3 with Hurricane Long 5. I also used Primorac Carbon with ox LP. And other blades similar and also faster than Primorac Carbon. But I seldom do short chop block. I just do block (fast). Fast they came, fast they went back.

Different strokes for different folks.

Another vote for the Nittaku Shake Defense. Previously used a number of different balsa blades, but I found the NSD is just more reliable and predictable, even as it does a great job on blocks and attacks.

I was thinking about trying long pimples with my Cybershape Carbon. Would this rubber then be appropriate for this blade?

Thanks in advance.

I think so...Matador Texa Carbon is one of the best blades for long pips or antis, it has carbon and is very fast. Manika Batra plays with Butterfly Viscaria, very fast blade with ALC...So I think Cybershape can be a good one to play agressive with LP near the table.

+1 Nittaku Shake Defense.

Good balance between control and speed.

I guess people recommending NSD it's to defend playing only active right?

You mean, active blocking as opposed to passive blocking? The NSD is good for both styles of blocking (keeps the ball low, with good dampening effect), but against higher-level players, you need to be able to do both with any blade. Passive blocking alone will result in balls that are too easy for good loopers/drivers to blast past you. You can also chop with the NSD, but that's not what it's ideally designed for.
