I was fooling around with a recreational bat with that Butterfly Pan-Asia stuff on it, and it was actually quite fun. This rubber is very insensitive to spin, blocks superbly and is pretty good for flat hitting.

I'm locked in with my current blade and long pips, but I often change my forehand rubber. I've been known to use anything from anti to long pips, medium pips and shorts pips as well as different types of inverted, but I've never tried a recreational rubber.

Anyway, since Pan-Asia is on the ITTF approved list and I'm not really that much of a forehand spinmeister to begin with, I wondered how this recreational rubber would do on a decent bat. Unfortunately I tore the sponge up pretty bad when removing it.

I wouldn't mind buying a sheet of this stuff if it were available somewhere. If not, can anyone recommend any ITTFapproved rubbers with similar properties that are sold individually? That Juic Danny comes to mind. Anyone tried it?

Alternatively, the rubber I actually want to use is still on the blade (I took the other side off as a test). Any tips on removing rubber from a recreational bat in decent condition?

Is the sponge very frail?

Difficult, I reckon they use something similar to contact cement on those. Try the speedglue thinners, but the topsheet might separate from the sponge at that rate.

How about Butterfly Flextra? It's the next step from Pan Asia, methinks. Should be pretty similar.

Or one of those made for kids (supposedly); cheap rubbers like Joola 4You or something.

The sponge seems normal. The problem on these recreational bats is that they use some kind of really strong glue, not the normal TT stuff.

To be fooled by the cheap price. Obviously aiming too high with joola4u.

That might be worth a try. Thanks for the recommendation.

Pan Asia isn't spinny at all. Is Flextra like that?

I'm sad to say, it might not be. How about 804 (that RITC Anti) -- it's similar in terms of the topsheet, but the sponge is different, unfortunately.

That could work too -- Metal Monkey did a video doing a long pip (viewtopic.php?f=36&t=4708&start=0), but in this case, I guess the sponge-blade glue is stronger than the topsheet-sponge glue; you might be able to take the topsheet off earlier than expected.

I suspect the ironing procedure is similar, though. You need to heat and melt the glue in-between the blade and sponge before you melt the glue bonding the sponge and topsheet.

Either ironing, or trying to peel the rubber off using acetone or another thinner; or perhaps maybe both procedures have to be done.

Those rubber are not designed to come off.. as a pre-made it's meant to be disposable.... So who knows what glue they would have used...

I got the rubbers off my double fish preassembled just with two little tears on the rubbers, just from slowly pulling in a horizontal direction, like you would with a normal rubber. Maybe I just got "lucky". (It was a pretty bad rubber) I wonder if the butter knife would do anything getting under there?

Some do come off very easily, some don't. There's just no guarantee as they were not designed to have their rubbers replaced.

i have numerous blades and im using a pre made at the moment with pan asia-blocks well and chops with a very low throw angle-handles spin well.my son has the same premade that costs about £17.he has dr evil on one side.i keep trying out other blades and rubbers and always come back to this piece of garbage.it is impossible to remove the rubber though.

Ha, I used a premade bat with Pan Asia for about 10 minutes yesterday when the coach told us to warm up with our training partner's bat! I was only counterhitting. The control seemed fine, as did what little of the spin capability that I used. My training partner was hitting the ball long with the tensors on my bat, though.

Acetone might loosen the rubber, if not, try lighter fluid, which reactivates the glue, if not, then try the Acetone again, might work after the lighter fluid.

You can substitute charcoal lighter for the lighter fluid.
