For those of you that switched from a Japanese, German, etc... rubber to a less expensive Chinese rubber, What did you play with and what do you play with now?

Last rubber before I switched to chinese rubbers was Xiom zeta and I switched after I came back from injury. My original setup was too fast/lively so I changed my whole setup and used a slower blade and switched to Gambler outlaw and a different short pimple - 802-1 I think. Outlaw is a fast rubber compared to other chinese ones I've used but when combined with the new blade which had an all round rating rather than my usual offensive blades it meant my setup was controlable but the outlaw still gave me enough speed not to have to be too vigourus with my arm movement. I moved on to Giant Dragon Maxspin after a year and a half because I was finding the playing characteristics changed with Outlaw over a period of 8 weeks, it was in the off season and I wanted to try something new that I hoped would be more consistent and better suited to learning a topsin style on my forehand - I was previously more of a hitter and then after my injury mainly a control/counter hitter. Again I was looking for a rubber which had reasonalbe control potential, decent spin but not quick and the Giant Dragon was dirt cheap so it was a risk I considered worth taking. Again at the same time as chaning rubber I also changed blades and put the Maxspin back on my faster blade hoping this time the blade would provide the speed and the rubber the spin and control. I'm a big beliver in trying to match rubbers to blades.

After a few months of using the Giant Dragon I switched again - it was too slow and I could only generate average spin with it. I was really having to work my arm hard again which I struggle with sometimes because of my injury. This time I went to Xiom Omega IV Asia mainly because I'd like the Zeta so much and the omega IV was new out - EJ took over  . It was too fast and bouncy for me so since March I've been using Yasaka Rakza 7 which when combined with my custom blade helps give me the control, spin and power combination I am after on my forehand side - the short pimple backhand side is still a problem and over a number of years I've tried lots (I'm the problem, not the rubbers  ). I now have a good comfortable feel to my forehand setup and I've definitely benefited from consistency in equipment on my forehand side.

One thing I would say which is probably contravesial here is that I read quite a few reviews from people who talk about how fast certain chinese rubbers are. I know technique has a big part to play but I generally find Chinese rubber to be slower and require more effort to generate spin. Speed isn't everything I know, but when you have to work around an injury any help I can get from my rubbers which means I can use my arm less to generate speed and spin is welcomed.

Ps I may have tried more inbetween but these are the only ones I can remember in this time span.

Debater, I totally agree on the chinese rubber demand for you to generate your own speed and spin. I never found them easy, especially on the speed side. I much prefer tensors for my FH, even on my fast blade.

10 years ago I played the Stiga Innova UL and Stiga Magna - then I switched to Chinese rubbers (beeing a poor student ;) ). Played mostly Friendship, Palio and Yinhe/MilkyWay.

Now I use modern Chinese rubbers like Yinhe Apollo/Sun very successfully. Some tests of modern tensors (Xiom Asia, Palio Blitz) were very enlightening - but they don't fit to my FH-style, too much catapult.

I used to be a Nittaku pimp.

Search for my rubber reviews.

Now, I used a very inexpensive Chinese rubber on BH for the last year or two.

I moved from Tibhar Nianmor MAX to Tibhar Volcano now and for cheaper alternative with a bit of euro touch I will go with LKT Pro XT, my friend bought it and I love it when I tried it. Maybe I will change it after my Volcano wears out, maybe in a few months..
Oh, and the sponge is a bit soft tho.

The price is around 75000 IDR here. Around 6 EUR :)
