I played a friends set up for a evening with golden tango on the forehand. I played it really well, so he gave me one used and one new sheet of Gold tango to try out, Since he switch over to the new slightly softer version of GT that has the 50 sponge instead of the 54. I glued it up and have not looked back. So far I really like it.
I have played hard chines rubbers before and I must say I don’t think it feels like a 54 sponge. in-fact i played it for a few days before I found out it had a 54 sponge. I probably would not have bought it (because of the sponge) for myself with out being able to play it and feel that. There have already been some good full reviews that I basically agree with. I add to what some people have said and say that it’s a spiny rubber, with great control. And I don’t find it slow. I don’t know if it’s the most spiny or any thing like that but I feel like I can really amp up the spin with this both with the brush loop shot and with the topspin drive. And something else to add so far I think the durability is also pretty good. I threw the already used sheet of golden tango on my main blade just to try it out thinking if I liked it I would then put on the new sheet. But I played it for a over a month now and my friend played it for a few months before I got it and I have had no reason to think about changing it you yet. I think it does a nice job or filling that euro/Chinese hybrid space.

Side note as I said my friend is playing the JOOLA Golden Tango PS version 50 sponge. I’ve hit it a few times and it feels pretty interesting as well. It has a bit more easy speed, and my friend says allows him a smaller stroke, with maybe a bit more safety on hard to reach balls.

54 doesn't mean the same thing to everyone.

Yea the golden tango sponge has a 54 degree hardness rating. Not sure how that compares to other brands.

To all as we quickly move out of 2018 for me the best move with rubbers this year has certainly putting the Golden Tango on 3 of my blades FH. Mainly the 1.8mm but I am also trying the Golden Tango PS 2.0mm on one of my set ups both rubbers give me fantastic spin with my serves & good control in general play. :D

Like haggisv said the topsheet of 401 is really elastic so despite having an hard sponge the overall feeling is really good with nice dwell time.
How is the dwell time of JGT compared to 401??

It's high too, and the JGT is stickier.

For that matter... what scale is the 50 on? (My guess - ESN Degrees.. which would be identical to the scale used for other Tensors and German rubbers.) All these different sponges will be illegal in a couple of years thanks to Igor (if you BELIEVE Igor.. )...
