Personally I'd argue that sponge and topsheet together matter more. :P

I tried playing with just sponge once... didn't do so well.

Seriously though - has anybody every actually tried one of these rubbers? Even just once?

For that matter, does anyone here even know of someone who uses coloured rubbers? I'd happily go ask them what they think and if it makes any difference, but literally nobody I know who plays the game uses them. :shake: :shake:

Like the difference between black and red sheets, I expect the differences to be subtle rather than glaring. Anyone know yet what the pink rubber Bernie Szocs was using?

I partially agree. But - as already said before - there _are_ differences, eg between black and red. Because of the different mix for the top sheet that simply gives the color. So not only a question of the spong.

I tested this and can confirm for LP such as Dtecs Grass green vs black vs red in OX - so no sponge at all. But the all have differences. Biggest difference is green. (Anyone playing the Dtecs Grass should try!)

Same difference is Kamikaze green!

And I *bet* this is also valid for the inverted rubbers!

Thanks a bunch for confirming this. :) :) :)

Can you explain how the green OX rubber you mentioned is different from the Red or the Black? Is it a big difference?

Also, is the difference a benefit or a hinderance? From your comment it seems to me you're saying the green rubber is better than the Black or the Red? Is this correct?

Imho the green version is a little bit harder and offers more control than black and red. Speed is somehow similar.

Most probably it was the Tibhar Quantum X.

This is irrelevant, of course (like most of what Igor posts), since the matter at hand is the differences in properties between TOPSHEETS (er, "Topshits") of different color. Who cares whether the sponge "rules the game" or not, since it's going to be the same sponge in any case.

Ah! Probably time to go look at the screen captures from that match again and compare "headstamps"..

Is there anywhere / anyone online who maintains a list of rubbers available in alternate colours (outside of the ITTF LARC list that is?)

Still curious about what alternate colour rubbers are out there and how they play, but can't be bothered looking through massive lists of rubbers by manufacturer to see which ones are/are not hugely popular. :)

I believe that Hurricane 9 has been on the LARC for a while but it has not come out yet.

Maybe somewhere in this year it will be released.
