Uh, Hi?
I'm "new" to this forum (I knew this forum 4 years ago)

Anyway as my first post, let's just review this rubber

Player profile : Cpen user, used to be shakehand, got tired of too much blade choices, opted for Cpen because only this prevents EJing. 182 cm height, Ma Lin structure

Player play : Offensive right-handed FH looper/counterdriver, plays both TPB and RPB.
TPB is only for "very left side" attacks, consisting of very aggressive TPB smash/hit and TPB Loop/Drive (Yes this is possible) and chop-block Ma Lin style stroke.
RPB is only for the "in front of body attacks" with drives/loops/block

A rather weird penholder, BH dominant play.

Rubber version : Max, Soft (61g), Red
Blade : YEO Cpen
Rubber position : RPB side

Actual review :

Rubber Physical Properties : Non-tacky, grippy topsheet with a litte less than medium sponge, harder than 729 Super soft, I'd say 34-35 DHS scale (I don't get ESN scales)

Blocking :

This rubber performs well in blocking, with the YEO, I can vary placements very well, the control is definitely there, and the speed is just medium-fast, less than AK47 by Palio

Driving :

This rubber forte is driving, the ball is good in spin, more than some other medium sponged rubbers in it's price range.
(I've tried the Yinhe Earth II, and this has just a little less spin than it, and less control, however it is less sensitive to spin, this is very noticeable) I play some mid to close distance drives.

My accuracy is improved from the lower sensitivity, however my opponent say they have no difference returning it than my old rubber.

Looping :

Very unique property of this rubber is the higher gear is a bit special, the speed is a bit less than Palio AK47. The spin is very strong, the kick effect is there.

Far from the table, this rubber speed is sufficient to make ball quiet long, and the spin is quiet strong. Opponent say sometimes the speed is annoying.

Medium throw a bit higher than that I think.
And the topsheet feels lively, but not too lively, it's definitely not dead.

Chopping (for emergency return) :

The ball is very linear and spinny. But nothing special

*Palio AK47 is the blue (softest one)

I think this rubber is worth giving a shot, the drive capabilities of this rubber is worth it if you like to play FH but BH is a bit weak.

The consistency in strokes of this rubber is well, I play RPB for consistency, waiting for enemy error in stroke. This fulfills what I want, I will stick to this rubber until I can save up to buy Xiom Vega ESN rubbers.

Sorry if my english is weird.

Great first post. Enjoyed reading your style, reasoning for C pen and about the rubber. Thank you very much.

Yeah, that does sound backwards from the way most penholders use Traditional and Reverse backhands. I suppose before RPB became a common thing players WERE playing extreme backhands with the front side of the blade, but it did look rather contortionist...

Interesting that there's a Mercury III out now.. Haven't been paying attention for a while.

The aliexpress one is real, but is half-tacky. Euro version is non-tacky.

Interesting. I found this on AliExpress:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003764097623.html

It's USD14.50, about three times what you'd pay for Mercury II on AliExpress. I've bought balls from this vendor, they seem OK.

And this is on Shopee:

https://shopee.com.my/Yinhe-Mercury-III ... 9814473707

Image

The seller is in Indonesia, I think it's that table tennis shop in Bandung I visited several years ago. Price is about USD8.

From what I understand, reading the above - the Euro is non-tacky, the Asia is half-tacky (and II is tacky). They all use the same topsheet, which makes me double down on the theory that what makes a rubber tacky is the glue they apply to the surface. (Otherwise, how can it be legal, since there's only supposed to be the one topsheet?)

The back side of the Euro package:

There's someone in Penang trying to sell this for the same price as Rakza..

https://shopee.com.my/%E2%9C%95YINHE-ME ... 7213069601

Mercury II is, to my surprise, cheaper on Shopee than it is on AliExpress:

https://shopee.com.my/Yinhe-Rubber-Yinh ... 2845088741

That's a little less than USD4. Corbor/Corbor Pro can be had for about USD2!
