Sauer & Tröger have kindly agreed to an interview on OOAK forum, about their new company "Sauer & Tröger" and their first new product the HELLFIRE.

Here are some details of the Hellfire long pimple rubbers:

Quote:
We are presenting the ultimate new weapon on the market. This longe pimple is named HELLFIRE. Since the ban of frictionless long pimples there was never any long pimple rubber which was slow and also very dangerous. Other long pips rubbers are very fast and dangerous or slow and not dangerous. This new rubber is slow and very dangerous. So that is absolutely new. Through the low speed it is easy to return hard topspin smashes. You are the one which controls the spin and the game. The versions with sponge are for classical defensive players, who act far away from the table. You can use our experiences in producing long pimples to play this revolutionary rubber! TRY IT!

speed: 40 control: 95 effet /disturbing effect: 80
sponge: OX, 0,5 mm, 1,0 mm

So please ask your questions here!

My Questions:
1. What made you decide to start your own company and produce your own rubbers?
2. Considering how many different long pimple rubbers are already on the market, how difficult was it to find something special and unique?
3. Did you need to go through a large number of testing samples to find just the right rubber with the right characteristics?
4. In what area do you feel Hellfire is unique compared to other rubbers on the market?
5. Since you are both high level long pimple players, do you both find this rubber suitable for your style?
6. Is the rubber more popular in OX or sponged?
7. Is the Hellfire much different in Red vs Black?
8. How high is the spin-reversal of the Hellfire?
9. Are there specific types of blades that would be particularly suitable for the Hellfire?
10. Would you class the pimples of the Hellfire as hard or soft?
11. What are your plans for future products?

Dear Haggis,

here we go with the first questions:

1)Around 3 years ago we thought about producing our own rubbers because we were not totally satisfied with the existing rubbers. The idea especially came up because most of the big companies do not research much in the sector of long pips. They mainly concentrate on fast offensive rubbers so that we were not sure if there comes something innovative and new.
We are sure that innovations are possible but they have to be done :)

2/3)It was very difficult to find something innovative and new. In collaboration with physicist and chemist workers we had to try many ideas and look at the results to come step by step to our result. We needed to test a tremendous number of samples.

4)The Sauer & Tröger Hellfire is unique because it is very dangerous for the opponent compared with a good control the same time. Other rubbers are dangerous and difficult to play or easy to play without big effects.

5)Yes, we find the rubber suitable for table tennis on a high level. We developed it to be suitable in our regions.

6) It is more popular in OX. Pascal plays it in OX, our customers order more in OX than in 0,9 mm. We will have much more rubbers on stock in OX.

7) We could not find a difference between these two coulors. But we have more in red on stock. And we have more preorders in red. So customers seem to love the red ones. But I have watched exactly the same for other long pimples in the past. The red ones are more popular.

8) I have to forward you to our video (minute 1:05). Pascal is only holding his racket without big movements and returning the ball. Here you can the spin reversal wihtout great action.

9)The rubber can be played from DEF to OFF-blades. We like the rubber more on medium to hard blades but all this is individual and depends on what the player likes.

10) The hardness of the Hellfire rubber is medium.

11)We are now working on a blade that fits perfect to the Hellfire. We are still working on rubbers and baldes that are very good for players with pimples but this needs time and very much work and testing. We are very satisfied with the Hellfire but we try to develope new excellent products.

Have you considered the change of balls coming in 2014?

Tested Hellfire with these new balls?

Cheers

I had the chance to play the Hellfire with one of the new balls from DHS. It works
also with the new balls.

Please notice that there are problems with the new balls.
Maybe it will be ready in 2015 or 2016.

Thx for your quick answer Pascal ;)

To me Hellfire looks much better(more tricky) on
your NSD than Trôgers blade. When the ball land
on the table you can see that the ball is fully loaded with something.

Of course,I will give it a try in a month when it is released  .

Cheers

I can't wait to try it. Is Hellfire as disruptive as Grass D.Tecs?

So, you mean that deadline for transition possibly isn't July 2014 anymore? That would be good news... where did you get that information from and what kind of problems are you refering to? For me, the decrease in spin and feeling was very significant with the seamless new ball... Do you have any other information about the development of the new ball?

I think these differences are mainly caused by their playing styles. Their strokes (position, arm movements, moment of taking the ball) in that video are totally different. Pascal, I was wondering how far away from the table you are standing when you are chopping in the first minute of the video.

same question. :)

It would be helpful if you could compare the speed to other ox LP sheet that you have ever tried.

It is much slower than the D Tecs. So you have a lot of control. In my oppinion you can compare it with a slow old D Tecs.

We made the video that our customers can see what is possible with it.

Hi Pascal!

I know that you've played before the spezial Contra version Grass.DtecS, I saw you video on youtube this spezial D.tecS have more disruption than the original. You block lower the ball than the original version and just little faster.
This spezial D.tecS stretch on the glue sheet. I see the Contra.de two different Hellfire. Firts the original and second the Spezial version.
This spezial version hellfire same the spezial D.tecS? Stretch on glue sheet? More diruption and little faster?

Best Regards!
