There’s not much that 1.9 tac c or mark v don’t do well, other than not being super fast. But speed comes at the cost of control. The way I see it, my attacking shots, if performed correctly, will not be returned (at my level) regardless of whether I’m using mark v or t05.

A defensive balsa blade is appealing to me as well, might have to try one. I have a fast 10mm balsa blade but I’ve never really been able to tame it well enough to suit my game.

^i agree mate-im a control freak-so many rubbers are just to damn fast-if it comes back hit it again lol.
its also worth mentioning a point that im hearing over and over again.
when playing lower ranked players you can get away with faster gear.
but if you are defence orientated and you play the BIG boys you need your slow controlled set up.
i often try other stuff and when you play a big hitter the control has gone :@ -i then reach for my snail gear :Defense:

played k -div 2 player-i played well with defplay anti and mark v
played j div one-even-he has a lot of spin and the mark v was not the best.blocked close and chopped from a distance.
may go back to the l catcher for confidence and ive had some great results with it

Wood is very important to play with an anti.
The best anti has a very low rejection, it is very troublesome and much more powerful on fast wood, rigid with low rejection.
On a slower wood, soft and flexible, I would rather advise the neo or the antipower, both much better in speed, attack and block.I
do not speak of the antis smooth which I do not know,
but in all the cases it do not play too passive whatever the coating and especially with an anti, have a very aggressive CD plate to finish the point and vary his balls to get the opponent out of comfort.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo.............................

I've met your dogs. A table tennis bat doesn't curl up to you and keep you warm and look at you with big dark eyes.

^^true ;)
good practice today with the defplay best anti and l catcher
played m who uses a lot of spin and has a good spinny loop.
i blocked chopped and hit a lot on the b/h-drop shots low bounces etc.
when i tried to play lots of f/h i messed up due to the spin.
so i played mainy b/h shots .got in with the f/h when i could.
THIS is my set up till the end of the season.
I am down to 5 blades now  sold the kung fu -decent blade but the defplay is better for me
i need to try the grubba variant blade .this is a little stiffer than the norm-i doubt that it will beat my defplay though

I may be a little bias....but may I suggest Butterfly Andrzej Grubba? It is a great all-round blade, perfect for beginners. I've used the blade for quite a while until I moved on to several other blades and to what I ended up using now (Dr Neubauer Combination Effect). The blade has excellent control, which should be good if you're just starting to take up the game competitively.

Sorry but I think I'll stick with Primorac on this. Grubba is too slow but has alot of control. Grubba Pro has the most control of all blades.

How do you know it is too slow? Have you tried them? ...and have you tried the Primorac? I haven't tried the Primorac, so I wouldn't know whether it is good or not for beginners.

Btw, just to let you know that I've got all the Grubba blades....

From Left to Right : Grubba Carbon FL, Andrzej Grubba FL, Grubba Pro FL.

Also, I've got my fourth Grubba blade :

Grubba Variant FL

In terms of speed, I rank as follows (from slow to fast) : Grubba Pro, Grubba Variant, Andrzej Grubba, Grubba Carbon.

The Butterfly Grubba Pro has a slight oversized surface, and is rated ALL-, which means that this blade is suitable for defensive play.

The Butterfly Grubba Variant is an in-between Grubba Pro and Andrzej Grubba. Good control, but not as slow as Grubba Pro.

The Butterfly Andrzej Grubba is not too slow, but it is not fast either. It is good for someone who is just starting to take up the sport seriously. This is the blade that I would recommend for beginners.

The Butterfly Grubba Carbon is the fastest of them all. Compared to most carbon blades, I must say that this blade has one of the best control in its class.
^^^good info re grubba blades

I can affirm what grubbafan wrote. Grubba Blades are recommended often to beginners by shopkeepers. My first blade was a Grubba Pro, it's elasticity is so much, you can feel it bending even when chopping. Never had a blade which shivers and bends that much.
