Btw for anyone interested. Here is a video of Anatol vs Denise Richards (one of the top England players). You can get a much better idea of his lvl when he isn't playing vs me lol

Thanks for the video, good to watch. He's clearly a good player. I suspect he'd be 70%+ in our Premier Division. He's got really good serves and seems to do well when he can get in on the third ball.

Yh when I watch him vs any good players who play more traditional he looks really good. But his problem is his mental game plus I have big advantages since hardly anyone at my club are exposed to LPs, especially OX

But for anyone that doesn't know I believe Denise was rank 4? Or is still, not quite sure. I'm sure Dunc knows though.

Also Dunc do you know a player called Dave Langham? Short chubby guy, doesn't move much at all, plays SPs BH, he used to play a lot more years ago, nowadays coaches a lot but he played British league for many years

Yeah, fair, I can see that tbh.

I don't know her, but I certainly know the name, so she must've been quite highly ranked at one point. Does she still play? Perhaps just not as often?

I don't mate. Does he play in the VETTS scene? That's the only way I would know him.

Yeah he did, I think he still played last year or so, but he wasn't as good as years ago before he started coaching a lot.

I think Denise doesn't play as much since uni. But I'm sure I remember seeing her as rank 4 before. She was on the england squad with Tin Tin but can't remember if they played her

Oh apparently she was number 1 under 21s and number 3 in England.

My friend lent me his unused £20 bat

He isn't sure of the sponge sizes and my measurements are not accurate but the Red is slightly bigger and is either 2 or 2.2. The black is either 1.8 or 2.0.
EDIT: Both are 2.0mm
But this is the 1 thing that always puts me off chinese products, it's the EXACT same order and yet the sponge colours are different :headbang:

Anyway if I'm honest I'm not sure when I'll give this a try and for how long. I'll be playing both today and tomorrow but today will be a lot of games vs div1 and 2 players so definitely not today as I need to test the knee. Tomorrow will be lower quality players div2 and 3. I feel like if I'm genuinely going to try it then should be from start to finish of a session though. Maybe I'll do it tomorrow, there's only gonna be 2 people who can loop properly though :^)

Back to mid distance feels so good. Its so much more fun for me. I'm not actually better/more dangerous there but it's more fun and comfortable for me.

Last night was another nice session, played round robins with 6 of us and played almost everyone twice. Mixture of skill lvls from strong-weak div1, div2 and div3 players. 2 were brand new opponents and 1 was the penholder. The other was Semi and a lady I've played many times who has the open rally game lvl of div2 but has no opening loop vs backspin at all.

I'll start by saying that I wasn't playing too well due to eating way too much chinese takeaway for dinner and my FH was not on the same page as me until right at the end of session.

The results with Semi and the lady were the same as usual, although I genuinely feel if I can get a better FH and also give less weaker opening BH shots then I have Semi's number every time. The penholder game although I've only played him once before with this style it wasn't close but this time it was, he actually took the lead and I came back and won.

The 2 new players was a bit interesting. 1 of the guys (weak div2) was a massacre where 2 of the sets were 11-1/2 to me. But the other (a strong div2 / weak div1 player) is worth talking about. He actually won our first encounter, now I do have to note that I was trying certain things in the game and I was very passive with FH and just trying to get far from table for testing purposes. But even the 2nd encounter was very close where I was more aggro with FH (but made many mistakes until last 2 sets). This guy is very all-round and able to play all shots. He is consistent with his pushes and touch play, and can loop both FH and BH with power or spin but not able to have both together with a strong ball.

But his strategy is what was most impressive as this was the first time someone played like this vs me who had all the tools (that isn't miles ahead of me in skill lvl). He served with consistency and kept them simple so his 3rd balls could also be consistent, I couldn't do much with them. He mixed his pushes and loops very well, and when I was at a distance he would mix in a heavy top spin loop that would hit short or mid table. Also added in a lot of touches bringing me in and out at times.

I learnt a lot today. My FH really needs to be more aggro, I need to watch my favourite player Chen Weixing again for motivation. I also needed to tighten up my LPs game at the table as I give unnecessary weak balls 2 or 3 times a game vs Semi resulting in a winning point or big advantage. Note to self this WILL make me lose more points for a while until it earns me more.

I didn't hold back with my movement today, also got tested with in and outs as well as side to side. I was just practicing to be more aware when I play a ball to middle I also position almost middle and when I played FH side I position middle etc. NO knee pain or tightness whatsoever (fingers crossed)

In todays session I used my friends bat which im glad I decided to. It's a friendship C-3 which I researched as an all-round blade. With 2x Friendship 802-40 short pimples. I believe they are both 2.0mm but this is just me using a measuring tape lol. If anyone knows what SPs they are exactly let me know

This was one of my ideas if ever I had to play close to table. Turns out I was quite right and my BH was an actual weapon and I hit a few tasty punches. I didn't change my technique at all for it either, pushing and serving took some adjusting though. In terms of FH, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it, I had to adjust very slightly but somehow it worked out alright, hitting backspin felt much nicer with my technique and playing close to table this worked out almost as nice as my Mark V bat with FH. Sometimes nicer sometimes not. With some time I think it might actually suit me the most but only time would tell me that.

However I take all this with a grain of salt since the skill level weren't that high. I played 5 different people from Div2/3 in my local leagues. 1 in particular is pretty good and has a really good FH loop. He plays a lot to BH but with the SPs I beat him 3-1 comfortably. With the inverted mark V bat I lost in 5th at duece. We then played a last best of 3 with SPs and beat him 2-0 very comfortably. My BH was just too strong for him.

I played for the first time a lady who played for 6/7 years at age 9-16 and played for her county at Cornwall as well as other tournaments etc. She is back after 20 years so still has her technique just not her consistency. We had some good open rallys but I was too strong with both BH and FH, when I was in position my FHs were nasty big fat hits haha.

I smashed everyone else lol. Had a lot of fun with it tbh. In the future I may try the stiga clipper with SPs on BH on a night where the skill level is higher. But back to my LPs mid distance for now

I didn't record that 1 session at all as the lvl of opponents were all a bit low and a lot of them aren't so keen to be filmed.

I've gone back to the mid distance anyway as of last week Wednesday, that was just a bit of fun. Played Fred yesterday after quite a few weeks. Also played the first guy in my recent video. I didn't hold back, just very mindful of positioning and relieved to report back 0 knee pain/tightness.

If I do decide to try it properly I'll record a proper session vs decent opponents. My 802-40 III SPs have arrived ill pick them up on Sunday and decide what to do with them

Cheers mate
Ah the joys of joining the dark side

That's Anatol btw! Crazy how much he changed when I came back few years later.
I have some footage from Wednesday with him but I recorded it portrait by accident, if I can figure out how to turn it and fit it to screen I'll upload it, it shows the difference of his loops then vs now

Not sure why the images are not working. But my 2x Friendship 802-40 mystery iii arrived. 2.2mm 40deg, Green sponge. Glued the red sheet to my Stiga Clipper with Palio Thors black on there with it. I didn't realise I had to message the shop to tell them what sponge I wanted etc it was all in Chinese.

I may have made a mistake gluing this on and trying it tonight.....ended up really enjoying it and playing well too. Enjoyed it so much I want to do it again on Wednesday morning ahhhh
