That layered material imitates spruce/fir a bit. You seem to like that handle style a bit.

Here is another blade I have made a few weeks ago (the serial #003). It stayed on his desk till today when he got the rubbers.
The blade is mahoganny(1mm) - fiberglass - ayous(3mm) - fiberglass - mahoganny(1mm). He wanted thin and stiff. (I used fiberglass because I had no carbon at that time).
It has 91.8 grams and 5.6mm. Speed 1335Hz@82db.

P.S. This was done entirely with hand tools (hobby knife and sandpaper). Just after this balde I decided to buy an electric router and a set of trimmer bits.

Meanwhile, another 2 blades built that have "users" allready.

1st)

#018 it's a Koto/Spruce/UD Carbon/Kiri , 6.05 mm tickness and 86 grams.
The user wanted something fast, expressly wanted to have carbon and with (very) low throw.
As measured, it has 1570 Hz, so it's something like OFF+.
This week, his owner will glue rubbers on it and I will have some feedback impressions.

2nd)

#014 - Zebrano/Spruce/Spruce/Ayous
It is a 7 layer, 6.6mm, 95 grams all-wood (very) fast blade. I measured it at 1548 Hz.

This is my own design and it was inspired by my discussions with Lasta regarding a fast/hard/linear blade.
The idea that light-up into my mind was that a linear blade should be stiffened against all the vibration patterns that happen at impact, so less energy is dissipated via sound or residual vibrations. I remembered this picture here:

that shows there are a few ways a blade deforms at (high) impact. Bending, twisting and stretching, each with 3 levels.
So, placing wood (or composite) layers inside the blade only vertically/horizontally is theoretically not enough. The first path that I had was to search for some triaxial fiberglass or carbon fiber cloth, but it was allready very late December and shipping companies are already overheaded. So it was no reason to order and wait and I walked in the direction of doing 2 all wood prototypes. The first was the serial #014 mentioned here, the second was the #017 (that I will present a bit later this week, after I will be measure it and tested).

So, following the above idea inside this prototype the inner layers are glued in an helical pattern instead of a vertical/horizontal layup. Only the outer layers and the core are positioned vertically. The result is a fast-stiff blade with an unexpected big hotspot, but a bit tip heavy.

It was tested by two colleagues that are more advanced players than me. One is a tipically offensive player. He told me that this is close in speed to his Andro Ligna FR Off and the topspin goes easy and natural from the first shot. Also he was amazed by the way backspin goes out of it. He told me that if you cut it correctly, it goes perfect.
The other player, is a defensive player. He was also amazed by the easyness he could chop the ball and liked that it has a low throw. He disliked the weight and the speed. He would have liked it to be in the range of an ALL blade and 10-15 grams less.
After these 2, now it has an owner and I am curious what his feedback will be.

Now, my intention is to glue a second build for further testing of the design. Is there anyone here interested in testing a prototype?
(Keep in mind that this will be 90-95 grams heavy)

Yes, Zebrano looks very beautiful and the linseed oil that I applied enriched the color even further.

This is an interesting wood, it's hard and it's fast but does not feel stiff, like koto for example. It doesn't have that sharpness that koto has, but the ball jumps with at least the same speed out of it. I will explore it a bit more in the next weeks.
But, it has 2 downsides: it curls like crazy when stored and it stinks. Probably that's the reason why is not used by the bigger brands. :lol:

Meanwhile I had built another prototype, for a player that wanted to start experimenting with LPs and spin reversal.

The woods used are black-cherry/balsa/white-ash. It is a 5.2 mm thin, stiff, a bit soft-ish blade with slow speed and a lot of vibrations at low impact. At smash, it's still stiff, still on the slow side (you barely go over the table with this) but due to the hard core, it feels harder.

During tests ... the pips colleague that tested, had an idea to rip off the top-sheet of an inverted rubber and transform it into a sponge-less short-pips. Using it he discovered that he could make topspin with it, easily. So, an unexpected feature.

Composition is spruce-ayous-ayous-ayous-spruce.
Those are 2 bouncy blades with a lot of dwell time and soft feeling.

Some new stuff!
Similar in recipe to Butterfly Clearfield, but ticker.
7.2mm instead of 6.8mm, and 95 grams.

Just a thought. All modern manufacturers buy pre-made composite weaves. Carbon, alc, zlc, are all nice and have good strength to weight ratio but "dull". How would milled ceramic fit in a tt blade? ie Essential/Xiaomi phone material.

I see a few problems/issues:
- should be found/produced in thin enough sheets (like 0.2 - 0.3mm), to be able to comply with the 85% wood rule on ITTF;
- depends how adhesives stick to it;
- depends how easy is to be cut;
- depends how heavy it is;

Yes, but maybe a sheet of some similar plastic can do something. Maybe Lexan, or ABS or PET-G.
I was thinking a few days ago, about some rigid thin foam used for a defensive-asymmetric blade.

This idea should be tested one day.
