Ito Mima - Mizutani Jun win Mixed Doubles at the Olympics.

Will have to see if I can find the full match video. Looks like the Chinese team were very strong in the beginning, winning the first two games. None of this back-from-the-table looping any more, it's all short balls and off-the-bounce attacks.

Hei, IOC, take care to give Mizutanei yet another gold.

From an expert's viewpoint, it was Jun Mizutaney who deserves both of the gold medals onto his breast. Mima Ito performed far below her own par, sorry.

From what i watched it looked like both Japanese players lifted their level in the last few games. In particular Ito's handling of Xu Xin's heavy top/sidespin redirected at LSW made quite a few points in Japans favour. Even Ito's serve caused problems for Xu Xin. Mizuntani indeed made a lot of great shots. A well deserved medal, I wonder if the losses in mixed doubles to the China pair in prior tournaments was part of a longer game plan.

Meanwhile, China wins gold and silver in both men's and women's singles as usual.

I finally got around to trying to watch the match on the USA carrier-NBC. If was a total of less than 5 minutes of video, almost 2 were introduction stuff. Then the final point of games one and two (only a point) and a few more of the last games. I doubt they showed 11 points total. Abysmal coverage. Better to ignore it all.

They have full matches at https://www.nbcolympics.com/schedule/sport/table-tennis
It's free as long as you have a TV provider (cable or streaming).
