Would it make sense to use drone cameras instead of (or in addition to) cameras statically positioned, for top ITTF / WTT events where the ceiling is quite high ?

I think the major events would have cables and structures in place to mount higher quality cameras. It might be en option in smaller events to get some unique angles perhaps.

Agree about small events
Also agree that top events may have such structures but I doubt a lot of them where TT can afford to rent, do have them
And I doubt most WTT events have arenes with such structures.

May be I miseed but I have not seen much coverage with such structures but probably some exist

Leave the idea for filming track and field competitions. For table tennis evens telescopic towers were always used since long time.

Drones have two very important problems for them to be used for filming TT events as I think:
1. They are loud
2. They generate wind
Both those things would make it impossible to use them near the playing field. And with their wide lenses it makes zero sense to use them for video from afar.
Also changing batteries and all that stuff..

3. They don't fly for very long. 15-20 minutes usually.
4. They often crash, especially when there's stuff to run into (earlier mentioned structures near the ceiling), and supposing they crash on the table?
5. They're distracting.
6. Their navigation and positioning depends on GPS, good luck getting that to work indoors.
