im always coming up with new service tecniques but recently im running out of ideas. my rule for service is never use a serve on one person more than it takes to win or lose a game. any suggestions?

If some serve was working for me, I'd keep using it for the entire match. just keep adding variations to it, and mix it up with some totally different serve to keep them guessing...

haggisv, how often would you mix it up with a different serve? after every two or three serves... or four or five?

I don't keep count, but i would do it every 3-4. You want to win as many points with the serve they don't like, but you don't want them to get used to it by serving it continuously, and you want to keep them wondering if you're going to do the serve again, or a different one.

i only use b/h serve, a few slight changes to angle of bat, path bat takes as approaches the ball can have the opponent unsure of the spin resulting in a few easy points.

if i want a b/h straight max underspin serve, i will make sure path of bat is on a direct line to my opponent [7 o'clock to one o'clock in effect]. i use this serve 4 out of 5 times as this is a very tight serve. if i want a b/h underspin/sidespin serve, i will change path of bat to 7o'clock to around 4 o'clock.

in effect i am swinging across path of ball from left to right addinging some sidespin to underspin, this serve is easier for opponent to attack with power but if used sparingly as change-up serve to straight underspin can get opponent pushing back a serve that is likely to pop up.

add a few subtle change in bat position open/closed at contact and you can have a serve that appears very similiar but has different spins.

the key i have found to learning a serve with maximum underspin is not bat angle or speed of bat at contact point but PATH bat takes must be on a direct line to opponent. with this direct path and a open faced bat angle you cannot impart any sidespin resulting in maximum underspin.
