I have three questions for English native speaker. They are not vital but help me understand some posts and videos:
1. is a table tennis racket a blade + rubbers or just another word for blade?
2. is a bat the same as a blade or as a racket?
3. is it ok to call a blade a wood? ( "a wood" would be the direct German translation for what we call a blade: "ein Holz")
Thanks

The racket is the whole thing in my opinion. If you are inspecting you opponent's racket as is allowed in the rules, you are not just looking at the blade, but more usually the rubbers.

A bat is a racket.

I haven't heard it called that. You may or may not know that up to 10% of the blade can be non-wood, so calling it a wood may be problematical.

Thanks

You are welcome

1. A "blade" is the bare, wood part of the racket.
2. Same as a racket. Some people even call it a "paddle".
3. Not in English (unless you play golf.. ), but it IS the same as what people call a "holz" in German.

A BOOK IS A TREASURE OF WISDOM.
my lovely home labrery here is a lot references to a variety of table teble products from around the world, handrreds volumes , profusely illustrated printed CATALOGUES breamful with table tennis products, I got by lucky chance from a native London shopkeeper, it suggests as follows:

Wooden Blade + Rubber(s) = racket= paddle=bat

London citizens are great linguistes, I believe.

Many thanks to all. It is as I expected. The strange thing is that it was a Canadian table tennis player who called a blade "a wood". But I don't know where in Canada he lives. Maybe he is from Quebec.

A blade is still a "blade", but we spell racket "racquet" usually.

I agree that it should be "racquet". When I see "racket" I often think of racketeering, not hitting a ping pong ball.
