timeout,

It's good that it helps your mental toughness by giving away game. I have different opinion and experience on that matter. Finishing each game strong and not giving it away improves my mental toughness that I can closed a set properly. This happens when I play competitive players and in tournament setting no matter what is the level of the opponent.

You play tournys - I can't even spell the word properly.

I'm only a lower-level houseleaguer and sometimes I forget it is just for fun. Of course there is an element of competition and no one likes to lose. I just feel the pressure is off me this year because I have lost two close matches already, knocks me down to fourth, and I have been absent. And also if things don't go perfect, there's always next year, and the year after and so on. But because I see the same guys and our club is small, these guys are slowly becoming my friends, so I get this feeling that I should take it easy sometimes...weird eh?

If I was playing a tourny then its win win win like you said Redlion.

No pressure over your situation timeout  . Always cool to just enjoy the game no matter what is the outcome.

Anyway, back to topic. In a competitive environment, winning 10-0 gives me the mental advantage in my other matches. For house league, its always customary to give the point away. Especially when playing beginners.

Enjoy the game. It is a never ending learning experience once you play and keep the ball on that 45 sq ft of space or should I say half of that space.

More than once I gave the point away at 9-0. Not so obvious... Also once when 10-0 against me, I failed the service...
