Great job with this. We do our results and RC input separately at Mt Gambier. Maybe this could save someone a job. Will have a look.

If you have the scores in a spreadsheet then it is possible to paste them into RCPennantSubmitter at RCEventReports: 2 EventMatchData to submit them to RatingsCentral.
Details (steps and required format) are in the manual.

My association may be interested as well. Currently we track pennants results ourselves with a recorder for each division, then we pay someone to, among other things, re-key the individual singles matches (rubbers in our parlance) in to RC. I will bring it up at aour next committee meeting in a week.

If you are interested in pennant ladder outputs you can check out the ES&CTTA that uses the WP tab in the Pennant section to link to its wordpress site:

To see an example of a pennant ladder pdf that can be produced see the ladders on the Melb Vets website:

Great work gmctt. I've had a look at this with a view to using it for our own competitions which we submit weekly via Cantor.

The problems I have is that it appears to be very complex. In the past I developed a handicap time gap calculator for my cycling club which I was able to use very easily as I developed it. A few people have had a go at the calculator but can't quite get their head around it.

I'm feeling a little bit this way with yours. I can see that its no doubt very comprehensive however I'm wondering whether when there is an issue crop us, are there going to be easy fixes?

Does the program allow for fill ins from to other teams? What if a 3 v 3 comp turns into a 2 v 2 comp on the night if a couple people don't turn up?

At the moment we use our own spreadsheet which we simply populate the team scores and ladders, we then enter the results into Cantor but don't submit the scores.

Do you think using your program will save us time? It looks like it takes a lot of time to set up the season, as our current system does but I'm reluctant to go through and spend hours setting up a dummy season if you feel it won't really save much time.

What advantages do you see in using your spreadsheets?

Just for interest, here is our results spreadsheet from the most recent season.

Hi Cobalt
Probably right in terms of development. It started as a method for transferring results from ResultsVault (when TTV provided its service here in Vic) to RatingsCentral. Then I developed the pennant section to replace spreadsheets and to make everything more efficient, while maximizing flexibility. Some features were only added as the technology became available. For instance, I added the WordPress section to the Pennant section once a WordPress plugin was made available that provided an OAuth server, thus allowing the publishing of matches scores and ladders to our website with just a click instead of having to manually paste in the html to the webpages.

In regard to issues cropping up, I am happy to program in adjustments or new features to suit people. For instance, in version 5, I added table allocation and scoresheet printing at the request of another RatingsCentral director. I am happy to talk people through any problems they are having in using it. For instance, the ACT directors had a skype session with me when they were sorting out steps in setting it up and making submissions to RatingsCentral.

In regard to fill ins, the program is designed to deal with fill ins in several ways. Much depends on the club's approach. Fill ins can be added to teams and so will show up in the team drop down menus when entering match scores. If fill ins are used flexibly and are not tied to a team, then a drop menu of a full list of all players is also available when entering match scores so potentially any players can be added as fill ins using the drop menus. In the player ladders, subs or fill ins can be included or excluded by a checkbox.

In regard to missing players in a 3x3 comp: the recommendation would be to allocate forfeits per usual. If only 2 players on each team were there then the 4 singles and 1 doubles would still be played on a typical 3x3 scoresheet. There are forfeits settings in the ladder settings section to deal with forfeits as required on player ladders. The forfeits are filtered out in the steps leading to RatingsCentral submission.

The spreadsheets on the edskills website are like the ones that our captains use. We run a multivenue pennant in which captains submit scores to me. The program RCPennantScorer does this via dropbox. Captains also have the option of using spreadsheets if they prefer. There is a section on those scoring spreadsheets which has the match scores in the right format for pasting into the Pennant: Match Scores section. The spreadsheets are setup by coping fixture and team data from RCPennantSubmitter. I probably haven't documented the exact steps for what buttons to click on to copy the fixture and teams from RCPennantSubmitter and paste into the scoring spreadsheets to set them up for a season. That would be something I could easily do if you needed it.

You would be able to use RCPennantSubmitter for fast score submission to RatingsCentral, even without using the pennant section.
You just need your match results in the form:
player 1 tab scores tab player 2 tab scores.
Smith, Tim 11,7,11,11 Jones, Raj 6,11,8,9
You would probably be able to do that easily in a spreadsheet.
You can then paste in the list of results for your pennant, then click a few buttons to process the results, create the event report and submit the results to RatingsCentral.

Yes, for me, RCPennantSubmitter saves me a lot of time in setting up a pennant for a new season. There is a button to roll over all the settings from one season to the next. So if you have some stability in team make up, like we do in a couple of our grades, then there is not much to do when creating the season fixture. Changing teams in grades and team - player composition of teams is quite quick --just clicking on players from the player list, which can be filtered by previous playing grade, to add them. There are also buttons that allow you to paste in grade lists, team lists and player lists. So if you had those in a list in a spreadsheet then you can set things up quickly.

Let me know if you want any help. One thing I can see from your spreadsheet link is that you use a rotating table allocation for your grades for the whole venue. RCPennantSubmitter currently only allows allocation of set tables for a grade, with rotation of those tables using the fixture templates which are optimized for this. I'll investigate programming in this option for you.

Hope this helps a bit,
Gerard

We do use ratingscentral for tournaments, but we're looking for a way of automatically loading our game scores for our main pennant competition.

Ideally we make the captain of each team responsibly to enter the scores online somewhere... so that results of all teams are available for viewing after every night. From this the ladders can be updated automatically.
The current system is manual, where all scoresheets are physically posted to a central person, who then has to enter manually for each players. This is extremly tedious, and every time teams need to be chased up if scores are missing. With about 14 grades, each of 6-8 teams, this is a nightmare.

Does anyone know of a way of doing this?

RCPennantSubmitter has a companion program called RCPennantScorer that allows captains to submit scores. The two programs communicate via dropbox. Details for setting this up are in the RCPennatSubmitter Manual. There are standard spreadsheets for score submission. Fixture details and players are taken from RCPennantSubmitter and placed in the appropriate places in the spreadsheets so that drop menus can be used for most aspects. This only takes a couple of minutes to set up the spreadsheet for a season. Details are at http://www.edskills.com/scoresheets/

Thank you!

With the current competition, there would be about 100 captains though... so to set this up with each of them having access and also having dropbox, I can foresee issues. That's why a central website solution seems a more viable solution, where each captain can just log in to the website to upload the results of their own team.

Theoretically, RCPennantScorer can work well.
Captains have to install RCPennantScorer on their computer.
They enter a code that gives them access to the one dropbox where the pennant data is.
RCPennantSubmitter collects the match data uploaded by RCPennantScorer.

But yes web based solution tends to have less things that might go wrong.
We find that some people don't know how to install programs or set up firewalls or proxies without know what they are doing.
