Hello everyone,
My name is Ariel, and I was hoping someone might have some insight on the table tennis racket I recently found. I’ve already learned so much, but haven’t quite solved the mystery yet. Any advice, or help is greatly appreciated. I hope you’re all well!! Hope to hear from you!!

Sriver rubber on an old Japanese penhold blade.
Signature looks like a Korean name: Sung Chul Ji.

Cannot quite make out the year.

Could it be this person? He did spend time in Dortmund.

Looks like one of the cheaper Butterfly Japanese penhold bats (note the wooden handle, and no cork on the blade). The date seems to be in 2006, if it weren't there I'd have guessed the bat dates back to the 1970s (note the heavy lacquering). It says "Made in Japan" - I suspect any cheap bats, Butterfly or not, after 1995 or so would have been made in China.

The blade handle has the printing "Tamasu Co. Tokyo". Tamasu was the founder of Butterfly.

It looks like professor Sungchul Ji signed the back of the blade when he was doing his Post-Doctoral research or study in Dortmund, Germany many years ago.
Date: Dec. 15, 1976? (Looks like a number 7?)
