Hey Guys!

I was wondering, how much do you guys vary between the spin and thrust in your strokes? (by thrust I mean forward force using arm or body).

I mean like, if I were to use a scale of 1-5, my loop against backspin has a spin of 4, and a thrust of 2. My topspin counter has spin of 2 and thrust is like 1.

So can you guys give me an idea of how much spin and thrust you prefer in your strokes? Thanks in advance!

I can't say numbers, but I must say I change things up. Not only in attacking spins, but also backspin.
For them it's harder to so what you do. So I play my normal backspin, and sometimes a bit extra, or sometimes almost nothing (but they often see that one coming).
If you cange the power/speed you hit a topspin ball they are better in estimating the spin.

So yes I do it, but I have more suc6 in the backspin changeup than topspin change.

EDIT:
And if the ball coming at you is backpsin or topspin you need to change your stroke.

I think I've heard this referred to as "gears". Also as "light" vs. "heavy" contact, with "brush" strokes being "very light" contact.

I suppose it varies depending on the situation - "light" contact loops ("slow loops") were once in vogue (in the 1970s), these days people tend to use heavier contact.

As with everything in table tennis, definitions tend to be vague, and everyone coming along seems to invent their own terminology..
