I play with CPen RPB and I sweat a lot, so I applied a piece of black tape to my red backhand rubber exactly at the place where my fingers are when I grip the racket. I am allowed to do so according to rule 2.4.5 of the ITTF Handbok, am I?

2.4.5 The covering material shall extend up to but not beyond the limits of the
blade, except that the part nearest the handle and gripped by the fingers
may be left uncovered or covered with any material.

Are you playing in tournaments? ITTF regulated tournaments? If not, it doesn’t really matter. I doubt anyone is going to oppose/make it a problem for you.

Have you also try using wristbands to help stop the sweat going down the hands?

I will play in a regional league this autumn. I believe they follow ITTF rules. I also will play in another small local league, and they probably will have an umpire too. So, it would be great if someone, preferably acting umpire, can clarify this for me.

No I don't think they will allow it. If you don't use that side they may allow it... although i would then use a red piece of cloth.

Thanks for the advice! I will try to practice without any tape and if it won't work, I will just buy a red tape instead of black. :)

@ Winter Beaver

Dear Sir,
Be alert of those quick advisers, of non expert talks in particular. You should not take non-expert hints as granted. You need always look for a reference by an ITTF person-in-chief or proficient umpire.
God loves you, as yet. You're lucky to have my expert advice, right from horse mouth. 8)

Be happy/

Please find enclosed official ITTF rulings 2.8.4 to satisfy your query pretty well.

Unfortunately the rules are open to interpretation, and umpires/referees will interpret the rules differently at times.
Whether their interpretation on the day of an event is right or not is not actually relevant, because their interpretation is law on the day.
