The young fellow with Anti (above) uses his NBA in a fine way.
He doesn`t hit with it twice in the same situation.
He tryes to attack against defense , then he blocks, does half chicken wing counters and sidewipes in change.
The opponent is always under pressure and is unable to built up his own game.
The powerful VH play rounds it up.

I had already posted this Eric Boggan match in my blog, but it is also very appropriate in this anti tactics study thread as well. He apparently uses a custom version of BFY Super Anti.

FLASH BACK 20 YEARS
Eric Boggan defeats Chen Longcan (with 2-color blade).

As to Boggan's equipment, how does one get a custom version of Superanti? Does Butterfly make it for him? Does he make it himself, changing the sponge? What are its characteristics? More grip, would be my guess, to sustain active blocking and countering against topspin...

That match against Chen Longcan is just awesome. Even if you take into account that Boggan isn't getting too much topspin from Chen (who is using short pips, single-sided) he is doing a great job, blocking very fast and very accurate, just before the top of the bounce, mixing it up with very quick and accurate loops, and a good tactical plan - blocking to Chen's backhand to immobilize him, then loop-attacking into the empty corner to keep him on the run. Variation is very good too: when Chen is about to get into the left-to-right rhythm, Boggan attacks the middle. Clever, well done, and very instructive. Thanks, MNNB!

I'm not sure what's different. Each of these big companies must have some employee who prepares these custom rubbers for the pros.

Here's Boggan's USATT Hall of Fame bio and also a big Sports Illustrated feature article on him from 1985.

Boggan holds wins over many of the biggest stars of his era including beating Waldner and then world #1 Jiang Jialiang in the '85 ITTF World Cup. He drastically cut back on his schedule after the two-color rule. Longcan was rated world #4 at the time of this video. It was Boggan's last big win before pretty much quitting the game all together that same year.

Sounds like Boggan would be another excellent candidate for an interview!

The player with the red shirt uses Yasaka AntiPower (black) mostly on his backhand although he also twiddles.

EDIT: There is more video of this player (João Lago) on this vid from 1:38 to 4:45.

He seems to have a relatively fast blade - balls stay very low and have a lot of speed, even when chopped. He must have very fine touch. Also his footwork is limited, but his hands are very fast - he doesn't seem to do much when chopping, but when you look closer you see how wristy and fast his chops are. Good show!

Timo Boll ALL blade for sure. Believed to be 2.0 AntiPower. I was also quite impressed by this.
