Post subject: | Battery Powered Robot - Possible? |
Is it possible to power a robot with a power source OTHER than a normal electrical outlet? During this pandemic clubs are closed and I would like to get in some practice but my practice location is absent any electrical power outlets. Could a robot be powered with a portable power station? Thanks John |

Update from Newgy... Yes, a portable power bank can run the robot. We did testing on several brands to offer them on our site but the total costs were too high. As the maximum draw is only 1.5v from most of the robots, there are many options available at multiple price points. Best regards, Newgy Customer Care Does anyone have any experience doing this? |

I assume they mean the maximum draw is 1.5A, not Volts. I think most run at 15V, although it may work at 12V, which is a more common battery voltage. A typical small car battery is like 45Ah, which means it can provide 1A for 45h, or 1.5A for 30h. If you only use the robot for a short time, you should be able to get away with something much smaller. I can't see what robot manufacturers can't at least offer it as a optional extra, it's nothing complicated, the main cost would be the actual battery. |

My iPong came with a battery box. Takes 9 AA cells, I was using Eneloop clones. VERY convenient, no need for AC power nearby. Iskandar |

Over the years, I have used the I-Pong Topspin robot when working in countries where I was often teaching in school settings (outdoors) and it uses 6 AA batteries. The robot is very basic, only giving topspin balls to one location but for working with beginners in settings without power it works great. Costs less than $50 and packs small enough to not take up much room in a suitcase. |
