In tournaments I'm usually very nervous. Can you recommend some substance to help me relax?

Substances that are really active will also affect your reflexes.

The best "drug" is to start before your own class in another (higher) class just to get going.

If it ever becomes just table tennis its time to take up darts or lawn bowls.

Play more tournaments and money game. Later you will realize you're much in control of your nerves.

You could try a half class of beer. It used to work wonders when I wanted to try to talk to attractive women.

beer works too slow ... a shot ( or double) of whiskey/vodka/bourbon or whatever preferred choice would work better and quicker.

Some players really do this. Drink a shot of brandy before a game. Someone told me that taking ginger like a candy without any additive help calm the nerves. I have not tried though.

I think the suggestion of putting on whatever kind of music suits you on some headphones is a good one. If you're nervous, in my opinion, you could go a couple of different ways. One would be to play something really relaxing and calming, whatever type of music that is for you. The other suggestion is to play something that will get you fired up and cocky. For me, when I need to get a "swagger" going, where I get to feeling invincible, I'll put on some rap music, something with an edge. I typically go with Kanye West for something like this, the man is the definition of "cocky". But that's just me. Whatever will calm you, or whatever will get your confidence up and make you feel "in the zone", that's what you should do.

I say go for the music thing.
If you eat or drink something that relax you, you can be relaxed too much in the game and not have the rigth reflexes and the responses from your body to play you max..

BTW there are kids reading this, dont say things like beer, marijuana and other drugs, cause they can try after reading this.
