So, here we go again. First (last year) the elbow, and now the wrist. Do you have any miracle solution for it? I'm going to the phisioterapist twice a week now, but I guess it will be long. Is there anything else to help I can do at home?

Gee, that's a little tough, Quelis. Has your doctor recommended increased uptake of protein? Or any type of support?

Kenta wears a wrist support when he plays. Try to give it a try.

Quelis, do some wrist exercise.

I have a Dyna-Flex, a gyroscope, to help strengthen the wrist and forearm. I bought it at Sport Authority in the US. You might want to check out their web site at:

http://www.dynaflex-intl.com

Wow, the price has gone up more than double since I replaced mine two years ago, must be very popular now. (I gave mine to a nephew to help him out in playing tennis). Anyway, see if you like it, it sure will help.

You don't need to do these exercise long, about 15 to 20 minutes daily will do, I have been doing it for a long time now. I use my wrist a lot during tt play, even with LP, plus, I also use some Chinese medical oil for enhancement.

If you have any problem getting one, please let me know, I'll try to see if Sport Authority in SD still has the cheaper version (around $20), you can of course pay me back. :)

I had a similar problem last year. I found wearing a neoprene support (flexible, compresses the area) full-time during waking hours for a week or two worked wonders. Never wear compression while sleeping. The only time I didn't wear it was when playing.

Obviously I rationed my TT during this time, but still fulfilled my match commitments.

The other thing I'd say is trust your physio, a good one works miracles.

Hey, thanks for all your nice advices.

Makai: I'm so righthanded that sometimes when we play lefties for fun, I get depressed. Let's put that solution as the very last option by now.

Yuzuki, Makai: For othr reasons my protein intake is quite high. Besides, I'm using a good wristband that makes me feel safer.

Tatlwai: YES, I do have one of this mahines that a German friend gave me. Anyway, I asked the phisiotherapist and she suggested to wait a bit until the inflammation decreases a bit more. But for sure I'm going to reuse it afterwards.

So_Devo: Can you send me some link about what you say? Is it like awrist band?
On the other hand, I'm stopping for ten days or so. I couldn't even raise a dish full of soup!!! Imagine to play TT.

Thanks again,

Q.-

Yes that's what I did. I was formerly a left handed person but because of my elbow injury, my doctor recommended that I take the last option, change handedness. It will be worth a million visits listening to the doctor that it is scientifically healed and stuff like that. Plus I don't have to change and regret if my left hand gives up on me.

Yeah, I see. I bought mine just yesterday, in blue. It's much ore comfortable than a wrist band. It was a good idea indeed So_Devo: THANKS!

I didn't want start a new thread when one already existed so here goes....

Developed some wrist tendinitis after a weekend of playing TT - full day tournament on the Saturday with a heavy 2 hour practice session on the Sunday. With getting a new blade I was putting in some extra practice. Plus I was trying to develop a more aggressive BH stroke & occasionally flicking particularly on the 2nd or 3rd ball.

With the final League matches on this week there was no rest for the wicked so some desperate measures took place.

Tried ice packs on my wrist 3 or 4 times a day for about 10 minutes for 2 days and it allowed me to play a league that evening. I have taken it a little easier overall this week to give it a chance to recover along with wearing a strap on bandage to help in changing gear when driving the car. Still using the ice packs but down to twice per day now but would apply it directly after a session when I get home as a preventative measure.

I do remember getting the problem a few moons ago when I was using a hammer and chisel for over a 2 day period and I might have started the problem then.

I did think about using my Right hand but that will take quite a long time to develop but probably worth doing if I was giving a knock up to a weaker player in the club. I might have some other problem like a shoulder issue down the road so I probably should re-look at that as a fall back option.

Would like to look at doing some specialist exercises to strengthen the wrist and again looking for inputs.

Is anyone else having this issue and what have they done about it ?
Is it a common problem amongst regular TT players ?

I guess that on average I play around 4 times a week varying from a quick knock of just 1 hour to good 2-3 hour session flat out at least once per week but would not play more than 45 minutes in one session (there's a theoretical limit of 20 minutes at one of the clubs but it's regularly breeched).

I reckon that in trying to develop my BH and possibly using too heavy a bat may have triggered the tendinitis. I had been using a BTY IF ZLC that was around 190 grams but now using a slightly lighter setup.

These are repetitive use (and overuse) injuries. This actually causes degenerative changes in the tendon. The only way to let them heal is stop the repetitive use. I wish there was some better news. Also, more recent research says that in these degenerative conditions there is surprisingly little inflammation, instead there are structural changes in the tendon without infiltration of inflammatory cells, so the ice may not really be helping much.

UPDATE: Recently changed to a lighter setup with a straight handle & I've noticed that I have no ache with my wrist and that's playing 4-5 times a week.
In the past I used to alternate between a ST and an Anatomic Innerforce and I thought varying the blade might have helped.
Aggressive backhand flicks and heavy Anatomic blade doesn't do the wrist any favours.

Thanks for the reply Baal. Thankfully I haven't had to resort to the ice packs lately. I did look at other options using a Powerball. Physio / gym instructor was against the idea saying that I was too old :o for something like that and preferred if I did some wrist / arm strengthening exercises. Found swimming very beneficial.
