I have been wondering if the Ittf will ban outdoor tt for pip players. If it is true that the wear and tear of pips will make the rubber illegal, then outdoor tt might be banned because we do know what the sun rays do to improve the performance of the pips .

Up until now the Ittf considers outdoor tt as beneficial to popularize the sport, however,if pip players are going to fail any test due to the natural wear and tear, then, outdoor tt should be avoided as the pips will age sooner, hence, the friction test won't be passed .

Might as well insist on pimples out players getting new rubbers out of the packet and attaching them as part of racket control ... given that rubber (pimples or smooth) lose friction merely by being exposed to air, let alone light.

That would also work for smooth rubber and the player administered booster rule ... must stop giving out ideas for free.

I suppose this means banning table tennis played on the surface of the Earth altogether... no knowing what oxygen does to rubber..

Seriously though.. 1) Do you play outdoors, and 2) if you do is it out in the bright sun?   It's supposedly quite common in China to come across concrete tables outdoors. I even saw a pair of tables in the Netherlands, out in the sun, but I never saw anyone play on them. Probably for the same reason there are so many windmills in the Netherlands.

We got about 7 outdoor tabletennistables scattered around our neighborehood. I see children and adults play atleast once every month in the Netherlands. Personally I don't like playing on those tables because they are wornout, don't have the right height (some are only 56cm high, great for knee injuiry) and the space around the table is way to limited. The ground isn't flat nor is the tablesurface horizontal. All these are an equally big reason to skip outdoor play than the wind imho.
