No.

I asked the new Bing AI about table tennis; where it was invented and the like. The giveaway that it is a little different is that it takes time to formulate a response. Not the "page generated in 0.00003 seconds" or whatever. It now refuses to enter into conversations about its sentience, after apparently suffering meltdowns. I suspect it is much closer to an advanced Alexa than to real AI.

I asked it how I could get better at table tennis. The answer could be a sticky for new players.

Quote:
"There are many ways to improve your table tennis skills, but here are some general tips:

Practice regularly with different opponents and drills12. This will help you work on your technique, consistency, reflexes, and mobility12.
Use proper equipment that suits your playing style and provides good bounce and spin3. A high-quality table tennis table, paddles, and balls can make a difference3.

Join a table tennis club or hire a professional coach if possible4. They can group you with players of similar or higher skill level, give you feedback, and teach you new tactics or strategies4.
Watch videos of professional players or tutorials online5. You can learn from their techniques, movements, serves, returns, and strategies5.
What aspect of your table tennis skills do you want to focus on?"

The formatting didn't survive the import. There were 4 bullet points, and the numbers are actually links to helpful web info, YouTube and similar. One thing, all of the results it gave were actually related to the subject. So it had "understood" the questions.

Yeah, it goes through everything it can find online and formulates its answer based on what it "learns".

"Are we scared yet?"

*** Mansplaining start ***
For every new tool, there is a new potential to do evil, or good. AI is no different. Just a new tool to extract something useful from an overwhelming flow of info. This extract may be useful to us. It may also be useful to our "enemy" (AI can be biased, just like a simple search, or your twitter timeline, by choices made in the algorithm and by data input). The trick is to think twice. Do not accept just any answer you get. Check for sensible output! Use multiple sources if possible.
*** Mansplaining end ***

Scared? perhaps not, but I have been wary of the situation for some time.

There is power in knowledge.
- If we let our knowledge be shaped by an AI entity, that entity constitutes power.
- If most of us are sensible enough to not trust a singular entity, all is well.

Trouble is, these days: stupid seems to be gaining a lead, and sensible is lagging behind.

Be wary! And please forgive the mansplaining.

CRAZY CORKSCREW FROM UNDER THE TABLE.
Ask question from this guy in black. I feel all eager to learn the way he obtained defensive mastery so much, and the crazy corkscrew loop in particular.
